Principal News

Wallington Primary School Staff

As we are closing in on the end of term 2, I would like to express my gratitude towards our wonderful staff that we have here at Wallington.  Our staff are committed, energised and motivated every single day to be the best educators they can be.  If you ever have a question or perhaps an issue, it is always best practice to make an appointment to see your child’s teacher.  Throughout this term I have admired this staff so much and it is a privilege to have worked with them.  We will continue to provide a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for all students.

This semester, we will be holding our end of semester parent teacher interviews.  The interview day is Thursday, 22nd June and it is still a school day.  Classroom teachers will be involved in interviews from 11am – 6:30pm.  Staff not directly involved in interviews will be taking the students from 9 – 3:20 pm on a rotating system all day.  To book your interview please visit the Sentral portal.

Semester 1 Report

All school reports will be sent out via the Sentral portal on Friday, 16th June at approx. 3pm.

Art Gallery

In Visual Arts this week, students have been exploring various Indigenous artists and techniques to use in their artworks and have created some beautiful pieces!  The 5/6’s explored how Aboriginal artist Thanakupi, uses clay to create spherical ‘story pots’ that include symbols to tell various Indigenous stories.  The 3/4 students will be exploring the beautiful paintings of Gloria Petyarre who focuses on leaves as bush medicine and creates patterns using specific brushstrokes to get the effect of a leaf. The students in 1/2 learnt about the hand stencils in the caves at the Blue Mountains that have been there for centuries and were painted using crushed rocks to show their hands. The students used soft pastels to create hand prints that look similar to those in the caves. Preps explored where the Aboriginal flag originated and created a collaged flag. Students across the whole school have all participated in painting a square patch of fabric that represents the important things in nature they see in our school community. Some examples include: the moon, the sun, people sitting at a resting place, trees and various animals. These patches will be sewn together to create a large patchwork quilt for display once finished.
