Term 4 - Week 2 - 2023

Principal News

Dear Families

This term, together with our wonderful Parents and Friends Association, we are excited to be planning several community events to welcome families in to the school. Our first one is a Community Picnic on Friday 3rd November from 3:30pm-5:00pm. There will be food trucks onsite, and families will be encouraged to bring along a picnic blanket, camping chairs etc so we can all gather on the oval. We encourage extended family members, such as grandparents, to also come along. Fingers crossed for a nice balmy evening!  We will also be holding a 'Wallington's Got Talent' contest at the Picnic - auditions will begin on Monday 30th October, 2023.

AEC Polling Booth BBQ, School Garden and Cake Stall – Can You Help?

This weekend our school will be a polling site for the AEC Voice Referendum. Our P&F will be hosting a BBQ, Cake and School Garden Stall to promote our school and raise funds towards our new Flag Poles. If you are able to help out at any time throughout the day, please sign up here: https://signup.com/go/YQmaLqP

A big thanks to all families who can provide support across the day.

Assembly this Friday will be held on the basketball court (weather permitting) at 2:55pm as the AEC will be setting up in the hall.

Playground Update

Have you seen our new climbing frame? We are finally seeing more progress on our Playground installation this week. Come along and check it out! We have our fingers crossed that it will be ready by our Community Picnic on the 3 November for all to enjoy.

Events in the Middle East

Many in our school community are affected by the devastating events in the Middle East. All of us are upset and disturbed by the awful events depicted in media footage and images.

This time is particularly distressing for staff, students, families and carers who have family and friends in Israel and Gaza.

We are also aware that students of diverse backgrounds, including Jewish and Muslim students, may be significantly affected by public events, mainstream media coverage and social media at this time.

Please be assured that all staff are aware of the extreme emotional toll on many in our community at this time. But please also feel free to get in contact with any of the staff at our school if you would like to ensure we are aware of what your child is going through at this time.

Our support staff will continue doing all they can to support all our students, and support is also available for our staff.

I also want to assure you that the department is monitoring the situation from a school security perspective and have advised there is no further action we need to take at this stage.

It is possible that extremely distressing scenes from the conflict may be posted online in coming days. Please ensure your children are aware of where they can find support in the event they come across such images. At our school, this includes their classroom teacher, Mel Williams (Mental Health and Wellbeing) and myself.

You may find some aspects of this resource helpful:

Support is also available through external services including:

My door is always open, and I am sure we will all look to support one another in this very difficult time.

Warm regards

Next Meeting

Art Gallery

The Preps have been learning about the Ghost nets of the ocean and how a small community in QLD re-use discarded fishing nets found in the ocean and turn them into pieces of art.  Students have been learning how to weave wool and are finishing off creating a woolen shell for their turtle.

Students in Years 1/2 learnt about artist Romero Britto last term and created works of art that represented his ‘happy art movement’. He creates art using colour, line, shape and pattern and makes art to bring joy and happiness to people.

Our Year 3/4 students have been learning about blind artist ‘John Bramlitt’ who uses raised lines to create colourful paintings. Students practiced how to paint blind by sticking rope around the outside of a simple animal and used their hands to colour in with pastels.

This week the Year 6 students have begun working on their graduation bears!  Today they turned their bears inside out and begun stuffing them.  We can’t wait to see the finished products!

We have been so very fortunate to have full length skateboards donated to us from David Morgan from Boardriders.  Whilst the Year 6 students work on their graduation bears, the Year 5 students will be designing and painting on a personalized skateboard!  Thank you so much to David for this incredibly generous donation.

This week, the students began by drafting two possible design solutions for the under side of their skateboards.
