Term 4 - Week 6 - 2023

Principal News

Dear Families

What an incredible week it has been!

Last Friday was a very special day, with our children enjoying an incredible morning/afternoon with the Children’s Fair. Each class put in a great deal of planning and effort to bring their stall/idea to life. We had old-fashioned games, coin toss, haunted house, face-painting, disco dancing, book and treasure sale, fortune-telling, popcorn and jelly, tattoo stickers and more! The school was buzzing with excitement with the jury still out as to whether the children or staff had more fun! 😊 A big thank you to our teachers and ES staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support the children throughout, too.

In the afternoon we came together for the final of Wallington’s Got Talent! It was so heart-warming to see children of all ages share their talents, from drumming, singing, dancing, comedy, magic tricks and more. All children were able to cast their vote to determine the winner which we look forward to announcing at our Whole School Assembly tomorrow afternoon.

Finally, it was so lovely to see so many families and staff attend our Community Picnic after school. I was a little nervous when the rain came but it held off so we could all enjoy a relaxed afternoon in our beautiful grounds. A big thank you to our School Councillors for hosting this event, organising the delicious Dumplings and ice-cream food trucks and providing the free barbeque for all to enjoy. I’d like to make special mention of Cristelle Gilmour for her organisation and our School Garden team who always put a great deal of effort into the Garden Stall!

Invitation: 2023 Victorian School Garden Award Presentation Ceremony

A few weeks ago I shared the wonderful news that our School Garden Program will be the recipient of an award, as part of the VSGA program. This is such deserved recognition of the amazing program and efforts of our parents and children.

Parents and students who have been involved in the School Garden Program, or who wish to support the school, are invited to attend the award ceremony (see details below).

Date: Thursday 23 November

Registration: 9.30am

Ceremony: 10.30am - 11.45am

Activities: 11.45am - 1.00pm

Location: ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS, MELBOURNE - OAK LAWNS Birdwood Avenue, South Yarra (CLICK HERE to see map for further details)

RSVP Please email Wallington.PS@education.vic.gov.au or leave your name and number of attendees at the Front Office by Wednesday 15th November so that we can advise the organisers how many will be attending from our school.
Please note: students wishing to attend will need to be driven by a parent/guardian.

We are very excited about our swimming program for Grades Prep-3 which will commence next week!
Students must be in full school uniform at school, with their bathers under their uniform. This allows for a quick change once at the pool. Please remember to pack your named clothes, underwear, towel and goggles in a named plastic bag for wet gear.
In preparation for swimming it is important that students start (if not already) practicing dressing themselves independently.

School Transition – Prep-6

We were so excited to welcome our 2024 Prep students to school as part of their transition program today. They enjoyed a wonderful time and even got to meet their Grade 5/6 buddy for 2024! Our Grade 5 students were equally as excited and proud to be given the responsibility of supporting our youngest students transition to school!

On Tuesday 12 December, our school will have a ‘Meet the Teacher’ Day as part of the statewide Government school transition program. All students (Kinder-Year 6) will have an opportunity to find out who their teacher and classmates will be in 2024, as well as the classroom they will be learning in next year. Whilst this is an exciting day for all, we do encourage families to try and keep the focus and conversation centred to the present, and not talk too much about the changes that will be occurring next year. We recognise that some students do benefit from additional time to process new information and relationships and we are in the process of working our plans to support children who may require this support.

Reminder: No School on Monday 27 November – Common Professional Practice Day

A friendly reminder that the school will not be running classes on Monday 27 November. No students should attend on this day.

Start Date 2024

The first day of Term 1 in 2024 for all students will be Wednesday 31st Janurary 2024.

Childrens Fair

Dear Families of 1/2M and the Wallington community.  We are so thankful for all your generous donations for the White Elephant/Toy stall at the Children’s Fair.  The students had a great day and the children from 1/2M did an amazing job, sorting, selling and running the stall.  We raised $240.00 which was a fantastic effort.  We could not have done it without the wonderful support of the Wallington PS families and community.
Thank you so much.
Mrs Moore and the superstar 1/2M students.
