Wallington P.S. Newsletter

Term 1 - Week 9 - 2024

Principal News

Dear Families,

THANK YOU

I wish to extend a sincere thank you to everyone in the school community for their warm welcome and helping me settle in this term. It has been a very busy time with so many events and activities for the students and community to embrace and enjoy. This week was no exception, with Year 3-6 District Cross Country as well as the Easter Bonnet Parade for Years Prep – 2, among other celebrations. It really is a joy to see students enjoying every opportunity to have fun at school.

STARTING WITH WHY

Throughout this term, the Wallington Primary School staff have been reflecting on what makes this school so special and what it is that we want the school to offer moving forward. These reflections included powerful recollections and celebrations of student achievement, engagement, and the strong sense of community and personal development that the school has provided students for so many years.

Building on our foundational values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, the staff were particularly proud of the reputation so often shared with the school about past students; students renowned for their leadership and collaboration skills; their spirit and humility; students who find their path and make the most of their opportunities.

Led by the ideas from Simon Sinek’s theory, Starting with Why, our reflections have led us to agree on a common purpose, or what Sinek refers to as our ‘WHY’ statement:

To grow, inspire and empower an inclusive community where students develop a strong sense of belonging, identity and purpose so that they become inquisitive, engaged and connected contributors to society.

It is from this statement that the school will move forward, guiding our decisions, knowing and understanding that our WHY statement is our core purpose, and the HOW and the WHAT will follow.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I wish everyone a happy and safe school holidays and we look forward to seeing everyone back on the first day of Term 2, Monday 15th April.

In the 5/6 Classrooms this Week

The Year 5/6 students have been using their creativity to plan, design and build their own spelling board games. This student led activity has allowed students to showcase their spelling knowledge and implementation of goal minded games. Students have worked independently or in small groups to generate a fun, inclusive and challenging activity. The 5/6 students spent time together to play their games, share their spelling knowledge and enjoy new connections through gameplay. Ms. O’Brien and Mr. KT have been very proud of the responsibility taken by all the students to lead their own learning and the respect they have shown when playing other students’ creations.

Have a great Easter break everyone!

3/4s Colour Wheel

With acrylic paint student's painted primary colours on the colour wheel and then mixed these to create secondary colours. Black was added in the middle of the wheel to appear like an eye. Using charcoal, we stepped out how to draw an eyelid, eyelashes etc around the 'iris' of the eye and applied smudging skills for shading.

Very impressive 3/4s!
