Term 2 - Week 2 - 2024

Principal News

Dear Families,

This week we have continued our terrific start to the term, with many exciting highlights for the students. On Wednesday, the Year 6s competed as part of the District Soccer Lightning Premiership. The students once again demonstrated their outstanding sportsmanship, enjoying the chance to compete and represent the school. Well done to all Year 6s who took part and a special thank you to all parent helpers. This week also sees the start of our assembly class presentations, with 1/2C sharing today. Each class will share throughout the rest of the term and we look forward to each and every session.

On Wednesday, two Year 5 students, Brianna and Clancy, were selected to represent the school at the ANZAC commemorative ceremony at Homestead Estate Residential Aged Care. The students were welcomed by the residents and were invited to lay a memorial wreath as part of proceedings. Brianna and Clancy were privileged to hear poems and stories from some attendees, which included several ex-servicemen. The two students represented the school wonderfully and should be very proud.

Please note that if parents/carers need to visit school during school hours they must first visit the reception and check-in with office staff. If this is for an early pick-up or late drop-off, students must be signed-in/out. Normal practice would be for our wonderful office staff to deliver messages, contact staff, or collect students from classrooms if needed. Parent volunteers will know from their induction, that they will be required to sign-in and sign-out at reception for all visits. Thank you everyone for your support with this.

In the 1/2 Classrooms this Week

This week the 1/2s were visited by Liz and Sally from Story Dogs.

The students were very excited to see Sally whilst listening to a story read by Liz.

Sally is a gentle dog, who sits and listens to the children reading, and the children enjoy the comfort and the support that Sally provides.

Wallington PS has been fortunate to have Story Dogs support our reading program in the 1/2 unit for the last 2 years. Liz and Sally volunteer their time each week to listen to and read to students.
