Principal News

Latest Update

As yet information from the Department of Education regarding the specific arrangements for next week have not been received, as their advice needs to be checked by the Chief Health Officer, which has slowed things down a bit.

The information that I have so far is:
  • All Prep to Grade 2 students will return to onsite learning on Friday 10th September with their classroom teacher.
  • Grade 3-6 students remain in remote learning.
  • Unfortunately parents/carers will still not be allowed onsite unless for essential reasons.
  • We will not have a staggered finish time; the end of the day will return to 3:20pm.
  • Onsite supervision for Grade 3-6 students will go ahead tomorrow for those students that were already registered for this week.
  • Onsite supervision will continue next week for those Grade 3-6 students who meet the current criteria for super
  • vision, please see the link to register.

This is subject to change and I will update you as soon as any new information is released.

NAPLAN 2021

Recent publicity around the release of 2021 NAPLAN has focused on how well Victoria has done - on the back of multiple extended periods of Remote Learning over the past 18 months. This is recognition of the efforts of parents and teachers to keep learning progressing during such unprecedented times - well done!

A summary of the Wallington NAPLAN 2021 results follows: results are grouped into achievement against the top 2 bands of achievement, the middles 2 bands and the lower 2 bands.

Our improvement agenda will be based upon all students learning and progressing, and at a whole grade level we seek to see increasing percentages of students in the top 2 bands and fewer in the bottom 2 bands. Some of this data is pleasing and some provides us with challenges as we seek to enhance current curriculum, and teaching/learning approaches. Our School Review (currently underway) will also look at this NAPLAN data in quite some detail. Individual student NAPLAN 2021 reports will be shared with parents in the coming months once we all return onsite.

Stay safe,

Glen Lauder

Parents and Friends

PICK MY PROJECT – CALLING ALL WALLINGTON PS STUDENTS

Parents and Friends are calling on all students to take part in this exciting P&F project.  We would like to hear what the students think would be a valuable addition to the school.  The budget is up to $1500.  To take part, please complete a “Pick my Project” which can be found on your google classroom or by clicking on this link - Pick My Project Form.  The form must include an image and/or weblink to the item showing it is within the $1500 budget.  Submission forms can be returned to the drawer opposite the office once onsite learning resumes for students and P&F will review the submissions next term.  We will let you know a closing date for submissions in due course.

NEXT MEETING

The next P&F Meeting will be on TONIGHT 9th September 7pm on Zoom.

Parent Payment Arrangements and Student Consumables 2022

Due to some recent updated advice from DET (Department of Education & Training) Student Consumables for 2022 (currently known as Student Essential Items) will be available to be purchased by parents/guardians directly from our supplier, COS (Complete Office Supplies) via the BTS (Back to School) individual Book Pack order.   This will be for the whole school from Prep to Year 6.  We expect the cost per student will be between $100 - $150.  Parents can order and pay online before 12 December 2021 without incurring any delivery charges (for orders over $50).   There will be options for paying via instalment plan.

Parents may opt to purchase items from a different supplier, but it is highly recommended that families use the COS ordering arrangement set up specially for Wallington Primary School. Detailed information on how to order online will be made available in term 4 and will be sent out with the 2022 Parent Payment Arrangement letter.

Other items for consumables (eg art and language programs) and online subscriptions for Reading Eggs (literacy) and Essential Assessment (numeracy) programs and Voluntary Contributions ie Library & Building Funds, Playground Project 2023-2024 will also be included in the payment arrangements via COS.  Parents may choose to pay via COS or direct to Wallington Primary School throughout the year.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email: wallington.ps@education.vic.gov.au or contact us via the Sentral Parent Portal.
