Grade Two Twosday!

On Tuesday, 22nd of the 2nd 2022, the Grade Twos had a fun day celebrating being a grade two! They did all sorts of activities around the number TWO. Big thanks to Alida O’Brien and Melissa Trezise for putting it all together.

 School Council

Last night School Council met to hear about the start to the year and to begin to put some ideas into place for the year.  We have a few updates;

  • Playground Update: late last year we were awarded an Inclusion Grant to upgrade the playground to make it more accessible. This project will be led by the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) so we will be working to their timeline. I don’t have an update on process planning or potential start dates but I will update you as soon as I can.
  • Environment Committee: Glen Smethurst (SC President) is looking for interested parents to join the Enviro Committee. This committee aims to work towards improvements to the grounds and parents can join without being members of School Council. Contact the office if you are interested.
  • Basketball Ring: Insurance has come through and now that restrictions allow greater access to the site the basketball ring will be replaced as quickly as possible.

I look forward to working with the new council once elections have been finalised.

Strawberry Fair Sunday 29th May 2022

We are so excited that we can get stuck into planning and preparations for the 2022 Wallington Strawberry Fair!!!
We have decided to change the date due to the looming Federal election which may fall on the original date.
The Strawberry Fair is a fabulous event, which provides a brilliant opportunity for the school community to come together for a day of fun and fund-raising to make WPS even better!!
Our last event was 1st March 2020 and was a roaring success. Over 5000 people attended, and the school grounds were filled with strawberries and smiles all round. The school community raised approximately $20,000 which was used to purchase new technology and was put towards the new playground. Not a bad effort for our little country school!
No need to talk about the 2 years that were to follow that event... instead, let's focus on the growing excitement as everyone looks forward to connecting and reconnecting with the people we have missed!
In about 14 weeks' time, we will host the 2022 Wallington Strawberry Fair (Sunday May 29th, 10am-3pm).
Between now and then, you will hear lots about the SF, and have lots of opportunities to get involved.
We hope this little guide answers some of your questions about how you and your family can support the fair - on the day and in the lead up.
Please feel very welcome to come along to one/some/all meetings (every Tuesday 6:30pm at school), where you can join discussions and share ideas to help make this the greatest strawberry fair yet!

Somers Camp

We have a terrific group of WPS students representing us at Somers Camp for 9 days. They have returned home and I’m sure, while tired, they will have made friends for life and have some great experiences to share. I am also told they were great representatives of our school.

Staffing

Like many of you, teachers are prone to illness, Covid or our own sick kids. When staff are absent we try to get our reliable CRT’s - Casual Relief Teachers - but it can be difficult particularly at the moment. We use a local agency to source a replacement and if the teacher is away for an extended time, we will try to have the same CRT in for that time. Can I ask families to let your children know that this may happen (or will happen) at some stage in their schooling.

Rapid Antigen Tests

We have received the next wave of RA Tests. We will distribute these to the students today. Please check your child's school bag this afternoon.  If your child is absent, the teacher will hold the RA Tests and you can contact the office for collection. Thanks for your cooperation.

Carpark Safety Reminder

  • Please maintain walking pace when driving in the car park, children often have poor traffic awareness.
  • No students are permitted in the car park at any time, unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Park as close to the marker in the centre of the parking area as possible. There is room for 2 rows of cars to be parked in this area. Parking is also available along the southern edge of the car park.
  • If the entire car park is full, as can happen on special days, you will need to park off the road along the driveway and use the side pedestrian gate.
  • In the mornings we encourage you to drop children off at the Drop Off Zone. Children should alight from the vehicle on the passenger side and enter the school grounds via the front gate. You must then move off to allow other cars access. Please note it is a DROP OFF zone only.
  • At pick up time, all parents must park in the allocated areas and collect their children from either of the gates. No parking is permitted in the drop off zone.

Headphones

A friendly reminder for students who may have taken their headphones home at the end of last year to please return them to school.
