Term 2 - Week 1 - 2022

Principal News

Welcome back everyone!
I sincerely hope you had a great break. I hope you have read the email I sent on Monday with the various Covid updates and procedures (see below for a summary). We still want to ensure staff, students and community members feel safe and remain healthy. We will have the air purifiers on, doors and windows open as much as possible and encourage appropriate hygiene. There appears to be several other illnesses (flu, croup, coughs, etc) out in the community so please take care.

Cross Country
Congratulations to all the students who took part in the cross country yesterday. As always, they did a fantastic job and had a red-hot crack. In the coming days students who have qualified for District will be notified and a permission note sent home. Thank you to Mrs Young for organising the day and a big thank you to all the parents and grand parents who acted as marshals, without you we cannot run the course we do!

Basketball Rings
Over the holidays new basketball rings were installed and they look fantastic. It’s been great to see them being used already.

Thank you to Russell, Shaun and Amber who held a mini working bee in the Strawberry Fair shed just before the holidays. The shed looks much neater and it’s easier to get to things.

Chess Club
Unfortunately, we don’t have enough numbers yet to run chess club. If you are interested please CLICK HERE for a copy of the flyer with all the details.

Prep 2023 Enrolments
We have begun taking enrolments for Prep for next year – both from siblings of current students and from new families to Wallington. If you have a child currently attending 4-year-old kindergarten and are looking to enrol them for Prep 2023, please complete the enrolment form which is available by CLICKING HERE or from the General Office.

COVID Settings Update

Face masks

  • From 11:59 pm Friday 22 April, face masks, while recommended, are not required in any school setting. This means students in grades 3 to 6, staff and visitors in primary schools are no longer required to wear face masks. Any student or staff member who wishes to wear a mask may do so, including those who are medically at-risk.

Screening requirements

  • Students who have tested positive for COVID-19, and have completed their 7-day isolation period, now do not need to undertake rapid antigen test (RAT) screening for 12 weeks after their release from isolation. This was previously 8 weeks.

Household contacts

  • Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. They may return to school as long as they undertake rapid antigen tests (RAT) 5 times during their 7-day period. They are required to notify the school that they are a household contact. Students aged 8 years and above who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school unless they have a valid exemption. If a student household contact returns a positive RAT result, they must isolate for 7 days.

Vaccination requirements for visitors to schools

  • Parents, carers and other adult visitors (not performing work) are no longer required to show evidence of two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

RAT screening program reminder

  • RATs will continue to be supplied for the first 4 weeks of Term 2 to support the early detection of COVID-19 in our school. Extra RATs will be sent home this week.

Mothersday Stall
Mothersday Stall will be on Tuesday 3rd May.  Grades will be called up throughout the morning to purchase gifts.  There is a maximum of 2 gifts per child.  Please do not send any more than $15 to school with your child.  Any remaining gifts will be available for sale at 3.20pm on Friday 6th May after assembly. Entertainment Memberships
P&F are selling Entertainment memberships. Memberships are valid for 12 months from date of purchase.  P&F receives 20% commission on memberships sold.  Fantastic for holiday savings on food, entertainment and travel You can purchase your membership via this link: https://au.entdigital.net/orderbooks/1131b68

Collection of bread bags and bread tags
P&F are running 2 collections;

  1. Breadtags for wheelchairs – drop your plastic bread tags off at the box at the office. The Ocean Grove Scouts will collect these for the “Breadtags for wheelchairs” charity.
  1. Wonderwhite Recycling Rewards – Our school will be participating in this program. From 1st June 2022, there will be a collection bin at the office to collect your clean bread bags.  But you can start collecting at home now!  The easiest way to do this is to fill one bread bag with approx 14-16 bread bags, then drop this off once the collection bin is available. Our aim is to collect 25kg of breadbags, which will get us rewards for our school to redeem new sports equipment.

Suggestion Box
As a flow on from our “Pick my project” competition last year, P&F have decided to run an all year suggestion box!  This is located in one of the drawers opposite the office. Write your suggestion about anything you would like at the school.  This may be equipment or suggestions that P&F may be able to fund or assist with. These will be collected at reviewed at our monthly P&F meetings. If you are suggesting an “item”, please also include a weblink or attach additional information.

CHESS FOR SCHOOLS at Wallington P.S.  

Is your child interested in learning and playing CHESS?  CHESS FOR SCHOOLS have confirmed that they are available to start CHESS at Wallington P.S. after school on Mondays commencing on the 2nd of May.  A minimum of 10 children are required so please register.  CLICK HERE for information and registration details.
