Term 2 - Week 9 - 2022

Principal News

Term 2
Well done everyone on a great term. It has been an interesting one with all the absences and disruptions due to illness, but it is a credit to the students, staff, and parents that we have all been flexible and rolled with the changes and taken things in our stride. I hope everyone gets to enjoy some down time over the break and I look forward to seeing you back refreshed and raring to go next term.

Grade 3/4 Camp
Just a reminder that Grade 3/4 Log Cabin Camp runs from Monday 11th July – Wednesday 13th July (first 3 days of Term 3).  Mr Vaught and the 3/4 Team have an exciting camp planned and I am looking forward to attending.

Last Day T2 Tomorrow
Tomorrow is the last day of Term 2. Please note, assembly will be at 2:10pm and students will be dismissed from school at 2:30pm.
Term 3 will commence on Monday, 11th July at 9am.

Reports
I hope you were able to celebrate all the achievements of the amazing kids we get to work with when you read your child’s reports. I am blown away at what our students have achieved, and I think they do deserve a good break these holidays. Congratulations to all students and thanks to our staff for their efforts with assessment and reporting.

Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 20th July between 10am - 7pm (second week Term 3).

Reporting is a two-pronged approach:

  • Written reports have provided a broad overview of the curriculum covered and your child's achievement against the standards. They will also provide an update on your child's ability to work with others, their organisational skills and participation in school life.
  • Parent/Teacher interviews will provide the detailed information about your child's progress and the next steps that need to take in their learning and will give you an opportunity to ask questions regarding your child's progress.

Normal classes will not run-on Wednesday 20th July and students are not required to attend school. An alternative program will be run on the day for students who require supervision. Closer to the date we will ask for an indication of those who will need supervision.
Parent/Teacher Interviews can now be booked through the Sentral Parent Portal. If you are not registered for the Parent Portal, please contact me.

Emergency Procedures
Lock downs and evacuation drills are an important part of our OH&S emergency procedures, and we will be conducting an evacuation drill next term. Staff talk to students in preparation for these events and work as a team to practice the procedure in the event of an emergency. Please discuss this with your children and how important their cooperation is in these drills.

Prep 2023 Enrolments
Enrolments for Prep for next year are rolling in – both from siblings of current students and from new families to Wallington.  If you have a child currently attending 4-year-old kindergarten and are looking to enrol them for Prep 2023, please complete the enrolment form which is available by CLICKING HERE or from the General Office.

Professional Practice Days
For Semester 2, 2022, the Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated professional practice day on the same day for all staff. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day.
Early in Term 3 we will confirm the date with School Council and communicate this with plenty of notice to parents. Professional practice days are student free days.

Art Gallery

Prep/1 - Yayoi Kusama Flower Collages

Prep/1 students discovered Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama who is famous for her dot artworks. We created a flower collage by firstly painting a background with dots which is challenging with a brush! Students cut out a template of a flower, leaves and stem and glued these parts down to make a flower, using sticker dots over each part.

These are gorgeous, great work Prep/1s!
