Principal News

It’s great to be back on deck again this week and I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes over the last week. Staffing and student attendance is going to be an ongoing challenge this term, but I encourage everyone to be safe, keep connecting with your child’s teacher and to maintain contact with the school through this current challenge.

Keeping our Community COVIDSafe
The Victorian Government, Department of Health Services and The Department of Education continue to have specific measures in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our local community. We can all do our part in the following ways:

We have the following in place at Wallington PS to ensure the health and safety of our school community as advised by the Department of Education.

  • Students and staff are recommended to undertake a Rapid Antigen Test if they are displaying symptoms. (These tests will no longer be allocated to students but will be made available to close contacts, symptomatic families or as requested - please contact the office on 5250 1841 for further support).
  • Families are required to notify the school if their child has tested positive for COVID-19 or is identified as a household close contact.
  • Students, staff or visitors can continue to attend school if considered a household close contact. Household close contacts aged 8 and over are required to wear a mask when indoors and undertake Rapid Antigen Testing for 5 days during the 7 day period.
  • We will continue to notify families of a positive case if they attended school while infectious.
  • Continue good health and hygiene practice by washing hands regularly, coughing or sneezing into your elbow and using hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Improving ventilation is one of the most effective measures to keep education settings safe. All classrooms and rooms at Wallington Primary School are installed with an Air Purifier.
  • When unwell it is essential that you remain home, seek medical advice and be tested if required.
  • Ensure 1.5m physical distancing when required.
  • Victorians aged over 5 years are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccinations are available at state vaccination centres, participating GP clinics, pharmacies or community health services. Please chat to your local GP for more information.

For further support please visit the DHS Coronavirus webpage
The current guidelines in place are fluid and we will communicate as soon as any changes occur.

Child Safe Standards
Like all schools across the State, we are in the process of implementing the new Child Safe Standards at Wallington. Our school actively promotes the safety and wellbeing of all students, and all our staff are committed to protecting students from abuse or harm in the school environment. The Child Safe Standards are Victoria’s approach to ensuring a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse. For schools, the Child Safe Standards will ensure that proactive systems and processes are in place to prevent and respond to child abuse. Staff will complete their annual Mandatory Reporting module and engage in professional learning on the new Child Safe Standards. School Councill will complete the Child Safe Standards training at an upcoming meeting.

Assembly
We have decided to postpone assemblies for the time being due to the increasing number of positive COVID cases being reported daily at WPS. We will continue to monitor the case numbers and as soon as we believe it is safe enough to have everyone together in the hall, we will resume on-site assemblies. Until then we will conduct assembly over the PA system at school so that special announcements and student awards can continue to be presented.
