Principal News

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to make the decision to postpone the Wallington Strawberry Fair. The Strawberry Fair Committee and School Council will examine what fundraising options we have available for this year and will make a decision in the coming weeks.

I would like to thank the Fair Committee for the hard work they have put in already and for their support and advice throughout this decision-making process.

NAPLAN
Not long now until the national assessments take place. It’s a little earlier than usual but hopefully we receive the data back sooner so we can act accordingly. We wish all the participants the best and we know that these tests do not define your child as a person or dictate what they can do in life. This is a snapshot of where your child is at personally and helps us teachers know what to work on with them next. Families, to help your child prepare, get some good sleep patterns in, chat positively about the tests and be ready to celebrate whatever their achievements are.

Daily attendance is important for all children and young people to succeed in education and to ensure they do not fall behind both socially and developmentally. Both schools and parents have an important role to play in supporting students to attend school every day and to be at school on time and ready to learn.

When students arrive late, they miss important introductions to the school day, impacting on how they settle into the routines of school and further impacting them socially and academically. If you would like to speak to someone regarding your child’s attendance or lateness, we are here to help.

Art Gallery

SNAPSHOT IN ART

This Term the 3/4‘s have been exploring Pablo Picasso’s Cubist Portraits in Art.

Picasso was a famous painter and was very good at painting faces. He liked painting faces from the FRONT and from the SIDE, ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

We read a funny book “Picasso’s Trousers” by Nicholas Allan - a picture story book about Picasso’s abstract art and explored some wonderful examples of cubism portraits, such as; Portrait of Dora Maar and The Weeping Woman.

Students used bold, block colours, showed experimentation of proportion and form and learnt to express an emotion through a cubism portrait.

Bellarine NAB AFL Auskick for Girls

AFL Victoria are running specialised After School Auskick centres for the remainder of this term. One of those centres is the Bellarine All Girls Centre based at St Thomas PS in Drysdale. The Auskick costs $40 for the 5 weeks, the children will receive a pack and they will also receive a $40 voucher at the end to put towards signing up for a community Auskick centre. Our aim is to then transfer these girls across to their local centre and let them know there is now a pathway through to the Peninsula Sharks.   Anyone aged 5-12 can register for the program.  Please CLICK HERE for flyer.
