Principal's Report
Dear Families,
World Book Day - Tomorrow!
Our Book Week celebrations are happening tomorrow! We’re looking forward to a wonderful morning of stories, creativity, costumes and all things reading, and we can’t wait to celebrate with our students and families.
Our Book Week Parade will take place from 9:10am tomorrow morning on the basketball court. Families are warmly invited to come along and join in the fun! Following the parade, families are invited to join us for a classroom walkthrough and activity until 10:00am, providing an opportunity to see our learning spaces in action and share in the Book Week excitement.
A reminder that there are no expectations around costumes - everyone is welcome to participate in whatever way they feel comfortable. We love seeing students get creative with outfits made from things they already have at home, and we’re looking forward to seeing the imaginative ideas from our students and staff tomorrow.
Please note there will be no afternoon assembly tomorrow and this week’s awards will be presented next week.
We can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow for a fantastic celebration of books, stories and imagination!
Whole School Performance – An Exciting Update!
We have some exciting news to share about our Whole School Performance!
As families will know, we had carefully planned a whole-school circus program across Term 3, culminating in a performance on Thursday 17th September. Unfortunately, the external provider engaged to deliver the program has not fulfilled the program as agreed, including the scheduled sessions and performance.
We have been working hard to explore whether the original program could be rescheduled, but ultimately, this is not going to be possible. We have therefore been determined to find an alternative that still gives our students the performance experience they have been looking forward to.
We are delighted that Stomp Dance Company has been able to work with us to make this happen. The new performance will combine dance and drama, with a little time travel thrown into the mix. We won’t give too much away, but expect some familiar sounds and styles from a certain decade!
Save the New Date – Tuesday 20th October
The performance will now take place on Tuesday 20th October, the day before the Geelong Cup Day public holiday. We are working with Stomp and an external venue to finalise timings that will give as many families as possible the opportunity to attend, with details to follow as soon as they are confirmed.
Stomp sessions begin next Thursday and will continue each Thursday for the remainder of Term 3. Classes will rehearse during the beginning of Term 4, with a final practice day in Week 2 before the performance in Week 3.
Please save the date - Tuesday 20th October. We can’t wait to see our students bring this new performance to life!
A wonderful reminder of the impact of our community’s fundraising: there is no cost for students to participate in the Stomp program, with last year’s Strawberry Fair funds covering the cost of the sessions. We are working through the remaining venue and event costs and hope to cover these through modest ticket and snack sales on the day.
SunSmart Reminder – Hats
A reminder that our SunSmart expectations are now in place as we enter spring next week. As a SunSmart school, we follow the official advice that recommends sun protection whenever the UV Index reaches 3 or above.
Students are expected to wear their school hats when playing outside during lunch and recess. Thank you to families for supporting the return to hats over the past week. From next week, students without a hat will be asked to play in the shaded area at the basketball courts during lunchtime.
Please remember to send your child to school with their school hat each day, clearly labelled with their name, so they can enjoy outdoor play safely.

Carpark Maintenance
A huge thank you to Daisy’s Garden Supplies for supporting the school with the materials required to complete maintenance works in our car park this week.
We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Steve, who does a wonderful job overseeing the maintenance and grounds of the school. From the everyday jobs that keep our school running smoothly to larger projects such as the recent car park repairs, we really appreciate all the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep our grounds looking their best and safe for our community.

Now approaching three years as Principal here, and with so many developments taking place across our school, I genuinely value this feedback. We need to know that we're on the right track, and your perspective is one of the most important ways we can know that.
The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and it is a very real and influential way to help shape the direction of our school.

Principal Leave
A quick note that I will be taking two weeks of long service leave in Weeks 9 and 10 of this term. During this time, Dan Ellery, Learning Specialist – Wellbeing, will be Acting Principal and will be available to support students, families and staff. I look forward to returning in Week 1 of Term 4 for another awesome term!

This was specifically requested by some Grade 6 students who attended our P&F meeting!

Stunning Aboriginal-Inspired Geckos!
Our Year 1 and 2 artists have created fantastic gecko masterpieces! Inspired by traditional Aboriginal dot painting, students used Posca pens to fill gecko templates with intricate dot patterns.
For the background, students drew colourful oil pastel circles on A4 paper and painted over them with black ink. We crumpled the paper into a ball to create a beautiful, crackled "batik" texture. Finally, students framed their geckos with black oil pastel to make them pop.
They look absolutely spectacular!

Notice Board
Unexplained absences
Please check Compass for any unexplained absences for your child/s for 2026, if you could put an explanation for each one before the end of term.
An unexplained absence in compass us a record indicating that a student was marked “not present” (absent or late) without a reason entered by a parent/guardian. It means that school is aware the student is missing but not why.
How to Fix: Under the "Attendance" tab, the "Unexplained" tab lists these absences. Parents can select the relevant dates and click "Explain with Note/Approval" to provide a reason.
Why It Matters: Schools are required to ensure they know the safety of students and keep attendance records, requiring a reason for every day a student is absent/late.

Compass notifications
Have you stopped receiving notifications of Campass?
Compass has recommended that you try the following:
1) Ensure that your app is updated to the most recent version.
2) Check in settings to ensure that you have all the notifications settings on.
3) Confirm that your mobile number and email address is correct in Parent Portal -> Update My Details. Changes are sent to school administrators for confirmation.
4) Confirm affected recipients are not marked Do Not Contact.
The Admin team are here to help should you need further assistance.

SAVER PLUS
What it is:
Financial Education and Savings:
Saver Plus is a 10-month online program designed to help participants learn about financial management, set savings goals, and develop regular saving habits.
Matched Savings:
Participants who complete the program have their savings matched by ANZ, up to a maximum of $500, which can be used for education-related costs.
Online Delivery:
The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants across Australia.
Saver Plus is a partnership between ANZ, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, The Smith Family and Berry Street.
Eligibility: To be eligible, participants need to have a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and an eligible Centrelink payment, have other regular income, be studying themselves or have a child in school, be 18+ years old, and agree to join in free online financial education workshops.
