Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Strawberry Fair

A warm and sincere thank you to all the parents/carers who have responded to the recent expression of interest for volunteering and supporting this year’s Strawberry Fair, scheduled for Sunday 2nd November. Your willingness to get involved is greatly appreciated and sets a strong foundation for a fantastic community event.

The Fair Committee met this week and is enthusiastically moving forward with designing the structure and activities of the day. In reviewing past fairs and carefully staying true to our three key aims (fundraising, community engagement, connecting and uniting as a school community), we’re excited about what’s ahead!

To keep everyone informed and engaged, we will soon launch a regular Strawberry Fair newsletter. This will provide clear updates on our progress and outline the many ways the whole-school community can contribute and take part. So, if you indicated you wanted to know more, or are unsure at this point how your contribution may look, this will help you all get involved.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or would like to offer additional help, please feel free to reach out to either myself or School Council President Anthony Sheedy. Thank you once again for your early show of support. We're looking forward to an amazing event together!

Fundraising Update
Following further successful fundraising efforts I am pleased to provide an update to the total raised so far towards our junior basketball rings. We have now passed halfway, raising an amazing $7,092.10! Well done to everyone involved!

Wellbeing: Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships

At Wallington Primary School, we are committed to nurturing the whole child, supporting not only academic achievement but also the social, emotional, and wellbeing needs of every student. Two key programs that underpin our approach are the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program and the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM).

The RRRR program is part of the mandated Victorian curriculum and is designed to help students build the skills and understanding needed to form respectful relationships, manage emotions, and embrace inclusion. Lessons are delivered in small, age-appropriate steps, from Prep - Year 6 (extending further in Secondary School) and are informed by evidence-based research. They encourage students to value diversity, demonstrate empathy, and take pride in treating others, and themselves, with kindness and respect.

This work strongly aligns with our implementation of the Berry Street Education Model, which focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and predictable learning environment. Through BSEM, we promote student engagement, emotional regulation, and a strong sense of resilience and belonging. It gives teachers tools to strengthen relationships with students, respond to their individual needs, and foster a calm, inclusive classroom culture.

Together, these programs form the foundation of our school’s vision to be an inclusive, respectful, responsible, and resilient community. For families interested in learning more about our commitment to student wellbeing, information, including RRRR lesson plans, can be found on our school website (Wallington PS Wellbeing - Overview). Alternatively, reach out to teachers, who are all dedicated to working with families to ensure success for all students.

We thank you for your continued support in helping us create a school environment where all students can grow, connect, and thrive.

ICT User Agreements
Just a reminder to review, discuss, sign and return the ICT User Agreement with your child/ren. We have had most forms returned already, which is a great reflection of the support and shared responsibility for appropriate ICT use among our community. Please note that from Monday 19th May, student access to technology will need to be restricted for any student who has not returned the signed agreement to their teacher. Extra copies can be found on the school website on the ‘Policies’ page.

Division Cross Country
Good luck to the nine students who qualified to take part in the Division Cross Country next Tuesday. It has been a pleasure to run through some training drills with the team in the lead-up and I know that they will represent the school with pride!

STEM & First Nations Studies

Dear Families,

Enjoy watching our latest video from STEM/First Nations classes.

STEM needs lots of small boxes and shoe boxes over the few weeks. If you also have any old matchbox cars and Lego figures that you would be happy to donate it would also be much appreciated for upcoming activities.

Physical Education News

Congratulations to Brianna at MSAC!

It was Brianna‘s first time at MSAC at a big proper meet, so the nerves were running high. The crowd was huge and it was just as much about managing the nerves and the occasion as it was the swimming.

Results

50m freestyle - Gold Medal and PB

50m Breastroke - Silver Medal

50m Butterfly - Bronze Medal

Brianna loved meeting other swimmers in the Multiclass event and made some new friends.

Doing a warm down in the 5m deep diving pool was a highlight watching divers dive  from the high platforms and almost hit the bottom of the 5m pool!

A great day all round.

Dear Families

In PE the Grades 3 - 6's have been participating in Soccer stations focusing on dribbling, striking, passing accurately and mini games to pass and move into space.  The students having enjoyed taking on leadership roles and using their experience to help others.  They have done a great job giving comments about their peers showing positivity and highlighting things that members of their group did really well.  The 5/6's then went on to put these skills to the test in our Soccer Lightening Prem day last Thursday 🙂

Soccer Lightening Prem entry  (Hopefully James got some pics of the day as I was useless and kept getting distracted with the running of the comp)

Our Grade 5/6 students competed in our District Soccer Lightening Prem day last week.  Some students experienced this for the first time and went from feeling apprehensive and sometimes not feeling confident to go on to playing whole games to then requesting to be subbed back on the field.  Its great that they have now had this positive experience and will hopefully be more open to this in the future.  Both our teams did great on the day and represented our school extremely well and cheered each other on.  We showed great sports personship and shook hands after every game.  On top of that the sun was shining on another beautiful blue-sky day.  In the end our mixed team came 4th overall against some impressive, experienced teams with a number of kids playing for weekend clubs.  Our girls team increased in confidence throughout the day and further built their knowledge of soccer and gained a great experience.  They came 6th but loved every minute.  Well done team and thanks to all who contributed to the day.

It was also fantastic to see Bellarine Collage provided our Umpires for the day which was a great community Link.  They did a fabulous job and may show opportunities for our future high school attendees.

STOMP

Thankyou to our Wallington P.S. students who joined into our STOMP incursion. What a fun day had by all, learning new dance routines and performing at the end of the day. Our Wallington P.S. families also got the opportunity to join in!

Thankyou to Michelle Bishop for organising the STOMP event.

Wellbeing at Wallington

Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities,

This week’s activity asks students to focus on the amount of sleep they are getting. As a guideline the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne recommends:

  • Children aged one to three years old need 12 to 14 hours

  • Children aged three to six years old need 10 to 12 hours

  • Children aged seven to 12 years old need 10 to 11 hours

  • Children aged 13 to 18 years old need 8 to 10 hours

As part of our Community Circle routine we ask students ‘what went well’ and their replies are often mentioning having a good sleep or getting a bit of a sleep in, so they’re beginning to see the impact that getting a good night's sleep can have on their wellbeing and learning.

Just a reminder that Breakfast Club will be running every Thursday morning from 8.45am outside the hall kitchen. Come and join us for some toast with jam or vegemite.
