Dear Families,
100 Days Celebration!
Congratulations to our amazing Prep class, who proudly celebrated their 100 Days of School on Monday!
It was a wonderful day filled with fun, with students dressing up in bright colours and taking part in creative activities and festivities. Each student was also presented with a special certificate in front of parents.
It is wonderful to reflect on just how far our Preps have come in such a short time. They have quickly grown into confident, capable members of our school community and are proudly embodying the values of Wallington as our newest generation of students.
Thank you to the Preps for sharing some of your favourite things about school so far - even if it was a little difficult to see past the excitement and fun of the celebration itself (the cookies were a popular activity!). We are so proud of you and look forward to seeing all that you can achieve in the next 100 days and beyond!
Camp Week - Here We Come!
We are so excited - the wait is almost over… our 3-6 Camp starts on Wednesday and Bunyip Camp is on Friday.
We are incredibly proud of our camp program at Wallington, where students of all ages have opportunities to challenge themselves, try something new, build independence and experience success in new and unfamiliar settings. Whether it’s tackling a new activity, spending time away from home or even meeting the Bunyip, these experiences help our students discover new strengths, build confidence and develop greater independence.
Every year, we love seeing the growth, confidence, resilience and excitement that come from these unique Wallington experiences. We know our students will embrace the challenges, support one another and, most importantly, make some wonderful memories along the way.
Curriculum Day - Monday 10th August
Just a reminder that we have a Curriculum Day coming up. The Monday following 3-6 Camp and Bunyip Camp is a student-free day. While staff will be at school engaging in important school improvement work and professional learning, our students will benefit from an additional day to rest and recharge after what promises to be a very exciting week! We hope everyone enjoys the extra day to recover from the adventures, excitement and energy of camp week.
Fundraising – Classroom Borrowing Equipment
The lunch time equipment is on the way! A big thank you to Mr Ellery and our Junior School Council for their efforts in coordinating new sports and activities equipment for students to borrow and use in their classrooms.
The JSC listened to feedback from their classmates and came prepared with lists of requested items - impressively, learning how to work within a budget! They have done a fantastic job helping to ensure the new equipment reflects what our students want and will enjoy using.
Once again, we thank our wonderful school community. As you know, this was made possible through the money raised at our P&F Family Disco. It is a great example of a collective effort that directly benefits our students and strengthens the experiences we can provide across the school.
Book Week
On Friday the 28th of August we will be celebrating book week. Book Week is celebrated to foster a lifelong love of reading, spark imagination, and build critical early literacy skills. The 2026 Children's Book Week theme is "Symphony of Stories", featuring official artwork by award-winning author-illustrator Briony Stewart.
Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. Costumes can be as simple or as detailed as you like. We can't wait to see everyone's book-inspired costumes! Families are invited to our book week parade at 9:10am on the basketball court.
First Aid
On Wednesday our dedicated school team successfully renewed their First Aid and CPR qualifications, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, prepared, and supportive learning environment for all students and staff.
Each year, staff participate in CPR and First Aid training. This is an important part of our responsibility as school staff, helping us to respond confidently and appropriately when a student needs support. These are also valuable skills beyond school, providing knowledge and confidence that can be useful in our everyday lives and when supporting family, friends and others in our community.
And Finally… Chicken Retirement Home
A special thank you to Mrs Ratcliffe's family for adopting our much-loved school chickens! After a final farewell at last week’s Garden Club, they've officially retired and are now living their best lives in a beautiful new coop at Mrs Ratcliffe's parents' place. Think luxury accommodation, endless snacks, fresh air, and zero classroom responsibilities. A big thank you to everyone who has cared for our chickens so well during their time at Wallington. Wishing our feathered friends a long, happy retirement filled with scratching, dirt baths, sunshine, and plenty of well-earned relaxation!

Art & Music
Purr-fect Masterpieces in Year 1/2!
Our talented Year 1 and 2 students explored the vibrant world of artist Lauren Burch and created our very own 3D cat collages.
First, the students created colourful background patches using oil sticks, layering them with magazine pictures. Next, students carefully cut out Lauren Burch’s signature cat shapes, using black prockey pens to outline the bodies and add expressive facial features. Finally, to bring their creations to life, students stuffed paper bags to make them stand upright and proudly glued their cats to the front.
They look absolutely amazing! Be sure to check them out on display.

PE /Dance Weekly Snapshot
Physical Education & Dance Snapshot
Our students have had another fantastic week in PE and Dance, building skills, confidence and teamwork.
Year 1 Dance – Sunshine Dance
Year 1 students explored movements inspired by sunshine, using big, bright actions to represent warmth and happiness. Working together, they created and performed short dance sequences about a sunny day, demonstrating wonderful creativity and cooperation.
Middle & Upper Years PE
Students continued preparing for Athletics by developing their high jump scissor kick technique. They practised their approach, take-off and landing through a series of progressive drills before putting their skills into action over the high jump bar. It was great to see students encouraging one another and showing perseverance as they refined their technique.
Lower Years PE
Our younger students focused on running, jumping, dodging and throwing skills through a variety of engaging activities. A highlight was the Running Target Relay, where students navigated obstacle courses with enthusiasm and teamwork. They did a fantastic job demonstrating agility, coordination and positive sportsmanship.
Well done to all students for their effort, enthusiasm and willingness to challenge themselves this week!
Champion of the Week Award
Champion of the Week – Neo - Year 6
Congratulations to Neo for being our PE Champion of the Week!
Neo has shown outstanding effort and determination while developing his high jump skills. He has worked hard to master the key components of a successful scissor jump, including a controlled approach run, strong take-off, excellent body positioning and a safe landing. Most importantly, Neo has demonstrated a growth mindset by listening carefully to feedback and applying it to improve his technique each lesson.
His positive attitude, perseverance and willingness to challenge himself have resulted in impressive progress and success in high jump. Keep up the fantastic work, Neo – you are setting a wonderful example for your peers!

Notice Board
Unexplained absences
Please check Compass for any unexplained absences for your child/s for 2026, if you could put an explanation for each one before the end of term.
An unexplained absence in compass us a record indicating that a student was marked “not present” (absent or late) without a reason entered by a parent/guardian. It means that school is aware the student is missing but not why.
How to Fix: Under the "Attendance" tab, the "Unexplained" tab lists these absences. Parents can select the relevant dates and click "Explain with Note/Approval" to provide a reason.
Why It Matters: Schools are required to ensure they know the safety of students and keep attendance records, requiring a reason for every day a student is absent/late.

Compass notifications
Have you stopped receiving notifications of Campass?
Compass has recommended that you try the following:
1) Ensure that your app is updated to the most recent version.
2) Check in settings to ensure that you have all the notifications settings on.
3) Confirm that your mobile number and email address is correct in Parent Portal -> Update My Details. Changes are sent to school administrators for confirmation.
4) Confirm affected recipients are not marked Do Not Contact.
The Admin team are here to help should you need further assistance.

What it is:
Financial Education and Savings:
Saver Plus is a 10-month online program designed to help participants learn about financial management, set savings goals, and develop regular saving habits.
Matched Savings:
Participants who complete the program have their savings matched by ANZ, up to a maximum of $500, which can be used for education-related costs.
Online Delivery:
The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants across Australia.
Saver Plus is a partnership between ANZ, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, The Smith Family and Berry Street.
Eligibility: To be eligible, participants need to have a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and an eligible Centrelink payment, have other regular income, be studying themselves or have a child in school, be 18+ years old, and agree to join in free online financial education workshops.
