Congratulations to our 2026 Junior School Council members, who were recently elected by their peers as year level representatives. We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll have this year as you help us to make our school even more amazing!

Library & Wellbeing Furniture
This week, our new library furniture arrived, along with additional wellbeing furniture for our student wellbeing space, and students are already making the most of it! The comfy seating is a hit, with lunchtime library sessions and class visits more popular than ever. Even better, these upgrades come directly from our hard-earned fundraising efforts. It’s fantastic to see our community’s support going straight to benefit students, providing spaces they can use, enjoy, and make the most of every day.
Curriculum Day – Thank you!
Thank you to all families for your cooperation in allowing our staff to dedicate focused time to school improvement on our Curriculum Day. This week, alongside professional learning on Individual Education Plans and SMART goals, our team undertook significant collaborative work to continue revising and strengthening our curriculum.
As you know, exciting additions this year include new areas of study in Music, Dance, Media Arts and Drama. We are also taking this opportunity to go even further by enhancing our classroom programs beyond our extensive and rigorous English and Mathematics curriculum through what we are calling our Curiosity Curriculum. Encompassing Science, History, Geography and Digital Technologies, this updated, cohesive, knowledge-rich approach reflects the natural curiosity of our students and ensures that learning each day is engaging, challenging and purposeful.
From classroom programs to specialist subjects, our students have access to an extraordinary breadth of topics and learning areas linked to our context. Our commitment is simple: every Wallington PS student has the opportunity to explore, develop, and excel in their passions.
We might be a small school, but we have big expectations when it comes to teaching and learning, and our enriched and diverse curriculum ensures every student benefits from a remarkable range of knowledge and skills.
Thank you, as ever, to our amazing staff who continue to dedicate themselves to ensuring every student gets the most out of every day.
Cross Country Next Wednesday – Parent Volunteers Needed!
Our Cross-Country event is happening at school next Wednesday, and we’d love your support! We are especially looking for parent marshals to help keep students safe on the course and cheer them on every step of the way.
If you’re able to help, we would be so grateful. It’s a fantastic way to be part of the excitement and support our students in action. Please also remember to submit consent for local excursions via Compass so all students can participate.
Parent Communication Survey – Open Until Friday 13th March
Last week, parents and carers received a News Feed (‘Parent Feedback Form’) containing a short survey about school communication. We would greatly appreciate all families taking a few minutes to complete it. The more responses we receive, the more accurate the data will be, helping us shape communication strategies that truly work for everyone.

PE and Dance
Weekly Snapshot – PE & Dance
In PE this week, our Year 5/6 students took part in the Lightning Premiership, a one‑day interschool competition where they represented Wallington Primary School with pride. They showed teamwork, determination and strong sportsmanship while competing in cricket and T‑ball. Students worked hard to apply game rules, improve skills and support their teammates throughout the fast‑paced, round‑robin comp.
In Dance, students explored creativity through Balloon Dance, practicing control, rhythm and safe movement. They also learned stage directions in Centre Stage/Simon Says, using pathways, levels and dynamics to respond to movement cues and build confident performance skills.

Congratulations to Grace in Grade 6.
For showing wonderful effort and determination during the Lightning Prem Cricket Competition. You gave 100% effort, working especially hard on improving your bowling technique. Well done, Grace! Your hard work and team spirit make you a true champion.

Grade 1 & 2 - Rebecca Cool Portraits
Inspired by artist Rebecca Cool, the Grade 1 & 2 students discussed her work and noticed her style of painting portraits.
We began using black oil pastel to sketch out the shape of a 'u' for their head and added eyes/nose/mouth and eyebrows on patterned fabric.
Students choose an oil pastel to colour in the skin, adding in their eye colour and patterns for clothing.
You've done a brilliant job on these 1/2s, Well done!

Friendology
Friendship Fire or Mean-on-Purpose?
Conflict is tricky! How can we tell the difference between Friendship Fires, Mean-on-Purpose, Mean-by-Accident, and Bullying?
We classify conflict into just two categories to keep things as easy as possible for kids: Friendship Fires® (normal conflicts between friends) and Mean-on-Purpose behavior. By making this distinction and establishing a common language, we can better coach and guide our children towards healthy friendships.
Is it a Friendship Fire or Mean-on-Purpose?
Kids and their parents sometimes mistakenly believe that any conflict with a friend is “bullying” (a word that is typically misused and misunderstood). Instead, however, we want to use simple, kid-friendly language. Here are a few common questions:
So, how can we tell the difference between a Friendship Fire or Mean-on-Purpose?
The difference really lies in intent—was it a misunderstanding or were they really trying to hurt your feelings? From the data we’ve collected so far, the majority of conflict that exists in schools are Friendship Fires (approx. 90%).
Can a friend be Mean-on-Purpose too?
Yes, absolutely, and it really hurts!
Can a friend be Mean-by-Accident?
Yep, this is a Friendship Fire.
Can a Friendship Fire escalate into Mean-on-Purpose?
Definitely. This is why we teach kids that timing is important when we put out our Friendship Fires. Sometimes we’re not ready or our friend isn’t ready to put out the Fire. If we continue to try and Talk-it-Out when the time isn’t right, we will inevitably make the Fire bigger.
Can we de-escalate a Mean-on-Purpose moment into a Friendship Fire?
For sure. Sometimes we misinterpret someone’s behavior as Mean-on-Purpose. When we respond with a Quick Comeback, the person knows we felt it was mean. This then allows that person to respond in a way that explains that their intent wasn’t to be mean. By doing this, they move into the Talk-it-Out phase on the Friend-o-Cycle and, thus, it’s downgraded to a Friendship Fire.
These work samples below are from our Grade 2 URStrong Friendology program. They highlight our students’ growing understanding of what it means to be a kind, respectful, and responsible friend.
Through discussions, reflections, and creative activities, students explored empathy, communication, and problem-solving skills.

What it is:
Financial Education and Savings:
Saver Plus is a 10-month online program designed to help participants learn about financial management, set savings goals, and develop regular saving habits.
Matched Savings:
Participants who complete the program have their savings matched by ANZ, up to a maximum of $500, which can be used for education-related costs.
Online Delivery:
The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants across Australia.
Saver Plus is a partnership between ANZ, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, The Smith Family and Berry Street.
Eligibility: To be eligible, participants need to have a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and an eligible Centrelink payment, have other regular income, be studying themselves or have a child in school, be 18+ years old, and agree to join in free online financial education workshops.
