Dear Families,
Pyjama & Pets Day – GAWS Charity Fundraiser
Congratulations to the Junior School Council for their organisation of last Friday’s Pyjama and Pets Day, raising money for Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS)! Our collective efforts raised a total of $190.20 for this important charity, which was selected specifically by our students. Well done everyone!
Lightning Premiership – Netball and AFL
Well done to the Year 5 and 6 students who took part in the Netball and AFL competition this week! While it was a perfect day for winter sports, the students once again showed their resilience in not letting the weather dampen their enthusiasm!
National Simultaneous Storytime
This week our school joined in with millions of children, parents, and educators in schools, libraries, and homes around the country to read the same picture story book at the exact same time! National Simultaneous Storytime this year featured the book, Luna Roo: the Kangaroo, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake A. Minton. Great effort to everyone who proudly took part in this annual event, which aims to encourage reading, support local authors and illustrators, and promote libraries across Australia. It was lovely to join with the Year 3, 4 and 5 students to hear the story, which is a perfect example of one of our school values – showing resilience in the face of challenge!
P&F Events
Tomorrow is the final day for ordering tickets to the Wallington PS Glow Disco! The glow disco is now only one week away - Friday 5th June. Orders are also open for our Term 2 Special Fish & Chips Lunch happening on Tuesday 16th June. Orders close on 4th June.
Glow Disco tickets and Special Lunch orders are available through School24.
Semester 1 Student Reports
For some clarity as we approach the mid-year reporting period, I can confirm that we will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual. The reports will be published on Monday 22nd June, with Parent Teacher Interviews also taking place that week.
The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments will not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
We know that many families are accustomed to the content descriptor paragraphs traditionally included in semester reports. However, we also know that the fortnightly classroom updates are designed to provide more regular, meaningful and specific communication about what your children are learning throughout the term. We hope that this ongoing information gives families a clearer and more valuable understanding of classroom learning over time, rather than relying solely on a snapshot provided in semester reports.
We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at the parent-teacher interviews scheduled, or, as always, you can contact classroom teachers to arrange a meeting and check-ins.
School Photo Day - 10th June
Don’t forget to order school photos through the leading image website below. School photo day is coming up in Week 8 and photos must be ordered before 4:30pm the night before.
Somers Camp
And lastly, we know that the eight lucky students from 5/6 are having an awesome time at Somers Camp! I’m sure that Miss Ritchie and Mr Ellery, who have gone with the students from ours and several nearby schools, are having just as much fun as the students!

Gardening Club
Garden Club will be on every Friday (new day) at second lunch at 1.40pm.

We are creating a boot garden in term 2 and trying to include as many students as possible.

PE and Dance
PE /Dance Weekly Snapshot
Swinging Into Success with The Golf Lab
Thanks to our successful Sporting Schools Grant, WPS had the privilege of welcoming the highly respected PGA‑qualified coaching team from The Golf Lab. Their expertise, energy, and passion for teaching young athletes transformed our PE program into a professional‑level golf experience.
Students explored a full range of golf fundamentals, including:
Full swing — learning how to rotate, balance, and strike with confidence
Gripping the club — understanding hand placement and control
Putting — mastering accuracy and finesse
Chipping — developing soft touch and lift
Target practice — using foam balls to aim at targets… including poor Scooby‑Doo, who took quite a few hits but never complained
The coaches were impressed by the students’ focus, improvement, and positive attitude. It was a powerful reminder of the opportunities that open up when schools and community programs work together.
Lightening Prem Netball and AFL 9’s
On Wednesday our WPS teams headed down to Ocean Grove for the Lightning Premiership Netball and AFL 9’s competitions. With quick-fire matches, rotating positions, and a focus on speed and teamwork, both sports kept our students on their toes from the first whistle.
Even though we didn’t secure a win, our players showed grit, positivity, and brilliant teamwork—especially as the rain set in. Their resilience was a highlight of the day and a true reflection of WPS spirit.
A big thank‑you to Mr K‑T and Caitlin for helping with coaching, organising, and supporting our teams.
Year 2 Dance: Sculptors & Clay
In Dance, our Year 2 students stepped into a world of imagination, communication, and physical expression through the Sculptor/Clay activity.
The lesson began with a discussion about clay — its properties, how artists shape it, and how movement can mimic its flexibility. Students then worked in pairs:
One student became the Sculptor, giving clear verbal instructions
The other became the Clay, listening carefully and shaping their body into a chosen character or scene
Once sculpted, the “clay” performed the full movement sequence, bringing the artwork to life. Partners then swapped roles, building empathy, communication skills, and creative confidence.
The session ended with a calming cool‑down stretch and a reflective discussion where students shared what it felt like to create and to be created.
Champion of the Week Award
We have two champions this week : Congratulations to Heath & Casey!
Champion of the Week – Heath (Year 6)
This week’s Champion of the Week is Heath from Year 6, who showed outstanding resilience, teamwork, and determination during the Lightning Premiership Competition in Ocean Grove.
Despite the cold, wet, and windy conditions, Heath gave netball a red‑hot crack in the mixed team. He played with enthusiasm from the first whistle to the last, never complained about the weather, and contributed consistently throughout the entire day. His positive attitude lifted the team and demonstrated what true sportsmanship looks like.
Champion of the Week – Casey (Year 5 for AFL 9’s)
We are proud to celebrate Casey this week for his fantastic effort and teamwork during AFL 9’s at the Lightning Premiership in Ocean Grove.
Even though Casey felt apprehensive about trying AFL 9’s, he showed real bravery by stepping onto the field and giving it a go. Once the game began, Casey demonstrated the true meaning of teamwork — supporting his teammates, staying involved in every play, and contributing with a positive attitude.

Wellbeing at Wallington
Smile Squad - free toothbrush and toothpaste
On Friday, each child will be receiving a free toothbrush and toothpaste pack.
We’re also pleased to share that our school has been placed on the list for a visit from the Smile Squad van, where students will have the opportunity to receive a dental check-up in 2027. More information to come then.

Notice Board
Unexplained absences
Please check Compass for any unexplained absences for your child/s for 2026, if you could put an explanation for each one before the end of term.
An unexplained absence in compass us a record indicating that a student was marked “not present” (absent or late) without a reason entered by a parent/guardian. It means that school is aware the student is missing but not why.
How to Fix: Under the "Attendance" tab, the "Unexplained" tab lists these absences. Parents can select the relevant dates and click "Explain with Note/Approval" to provide a reason.
Why It Matters: Schools are required to ensure they know the safety of students and keep attendance records, requiring a reason for every day a student is absent/late.

What it is:
Financial Education and Savings:
Saver Plus is a 10-month online program designed to help participants learn about financial management, set savings goals, and develop regular saving habits.
Matched Savings:
Participants who complete the program have their savings matched by ANZ, up to a maximum of $500, which can be used for education-related costs.
Online Delivery:
The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants across Australia.
Saver Plus is a partnership between ANZ, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, The Smith Family and Berry Street.
Eligibility: To be eligible, participants need to have a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and an eligible Centrelink payment, have other regular income, be studying themselves or have a child in school, be 18+ years old, and agree to join in free online financial education workshops.
