Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall

It was amazing to see on Saturday the number of baked items for sale at the P&F Election Day BBQ. Thank you to all who donated their time and cakes and an even bigger thank you to the volunteers who helped set-up, pack-up and cook and sell sausages and cakes to the visitors. We were able to raise just over $2,000 for the new junior basketball rings! A fantastic effort!

Stomp – Assembly Tomorrow

We’re so excited for the STOMP incursion tomorrow! Remember, students will showcase their dance moves in a special assembly performance on the basketball court from 2:30pm. We hope parents can join us for this fun event. The Mother’s Day raffle draw will follow the performances.

Attendance Support

At Wallington Primary School, we are committed to supporting regular student attendance, as it plays a crucial role in student learning, wellbeing, and long-term academic success. Research consistently shows that high levels of school attendance are directly linked to greater educational and social outcomes. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to stay engaged, achieve better results, and develop strong social connections.

In line with our attendance policy, where absences become a concern, we will seek to work in partnership with families, the student, and other professionals where necessary to put strategies in place to support improved attendance.

We understand that some students may experience challenges that impact their ability to attend school, hence the importance of collaborating with families to identify and provide the necessary supports and adjustments to help each child succeed.

As a school, we care deeply about the success of all students, hence the importance of monitoring and supporting student attendance. We are working on a range of strategies to strengthen attendance and engagement at school, which includes tracking and following-up absence concerns, to help every student thrive. We thank you for your support. For more information: https://www.vic.gov.au/attendance-and-missing-school

Strawberry Fair Volunteers

Just a reminder that we are seeking initial interest from the school community regarding volunteering for a Strawberry Fair in November. On Tuesday, I put out a link to a short 2-minute survey on Compass, which I ask parents/carers to please complete by Monday 12th May. As the planning progresses, we will lock in specific roles and volunteer details.

Building Update
There have been many guesses regarding our new garden feature at the front of the new building, with imaginative responses ranging from Wishing Well and Fountain to swimming pool and fairy garden! Here are some updated photos from this week…

ICT User Agreements

This week, students will be handed an ICT User Agreement as part of our commitment to promoting safe and respectful practices when using digital technology. We kindly ask that parents read through the agreement with their child/ren, discussing the points in order to promote and support appropriate use of technology at school.

Students and a parent/carer will need to sign the back of the form and return to their classroom teacher, as soon as possible. From Monday 19th May, student access to technology will need to be restricted until signed agreements are returned.

Copies can be found on the school website on the ‘Policies’ page.

 Year 3 & 4 Insects - mixed media

These insects created by Year 3 & 4 explored many skills including using rubbing plates for the background, scratching back paint to create line and pattern and creating symmetry with two parts of an insect. White posca pen was applied to draw detailed line and pattern over half the insect body. These are stunning! You've done a great job 3/4s!

Wellbeing at Wallington

Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities.

For this week’s activity students are asked how they can respond when their friends share good news. At Wallington, students have opportunities to share new and interesting things happening in their lives during our daily Community Circle routine.

Students love to share news about their birthdays (their own and others), holidays and sporting events. Completing this activity gives students an opportunity to practice ways of responding to their friends when they share good news, creating positive connections.

Just a reminder that Breakfast Club will be running every Thursday morning from 8.45am outside the hall kitchen. Come and join us for some toast with jam or vegemite.
