Principal's Report
Dear Families,
NAPLAN 2025
Firstly, congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students who received their 2025 NAPLAN individual results last week. We are so proud of all students for their participation and effort. In our school, we value all assessment data and love to celebrate achievements of our students. In our context, we make the most of our size advantage by knowing each individual student and carefully tracking their progress through this and other assessment forms, being able to best tailor instruction to both support and extend students at their level.
With Victoria achieving the strongest NAPLAN results in the country in 2025 - ranking first or second in 18 of 20 measures - our school’s results are truly worth celebrating. Our Year 3 students scored above the state mean in Writing, Numeracy, and Grammar & Punctuation, while Year 5 students outperformed the state mean in Reading and Numeracy, with only marginal difference in all other areas across both Year 3 and 5. Our achievements are even more impressive given that Victoria’s overall improvement from 2024 was nearly three times greater than other states.
We are, of course, committed to ongoing improvement and will continue to hold high expectations of all our students in all areas. If you would like to discuss your child/children’s results or to learn more about how we can support further, please don’t hesitate to contact your child/children’s classroom teacher/s.
Attendance
On the back of a shared school-community focus this year, we’ve seen a positive improvement in our overall attendance data during the first half of the year, which shows the great work we’re doing together to help students access their learning as much as possible. Thank you to all families for supporting our focus on improving attendance. If you ever need any support, please remember that our staff are always here to help.
Please continue to update any ‘unexplained’ absences with a reason, as this is a fundamental requirement from the Department of Education.
Strawberry Fair
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support - it is so great to see so many volunteers coming forward to offer what they can! The next edition of the Strawberry Fair Newsletter will be released shortly, with the latest exciting plans and details. Remember that any contributions are welcome.

Preps- There's a Bear in there!
Preps have been working on these bear collages for weeks in art and they are adorable! There are many skills incorporated in this activity, from threading an overstitch around the quilt in wool, experimenting with resistance when using oil pastels and water colour paint and creating texture of a bear's fur using a fork across acrylic paint. Students have created a pillow for the bear's head and most included a little teddy for their bear to sleep with at night. Fantastic work Preps!

Wellbeing at Wallington
As many of our students will tell you, the introduction of Wallington Breakfast Club has been a huge success. We are so fortunate to have a generous community who donate bread and spreads which have enabled us to get this program up and running.
To extend the success of our Breakfast Club we are partnering with Foodbank Victoria to expand the resources we have available to us. Foodbank Victoria’s role is to source and deliver a range of core foods so schools can deliver the program, while providing information and resources to support the growth of the program within each school. This program is run in conjunction with the Department of Education and is free for all Wallington students and families.
This partnership enables all students at Wallington to enjoy a nutritious breakfast, allowing them to engage and participate fully in all the educational and social opportunities that school offers. In addition to breakfast foods, the Foodbank School Breakfast Clubs Program also offers lunch supplies and home food packs to students in need.
Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for more information about how we will expand the Wallington Breakfast Club and in the meantime, keep coming to grab some toast on Thursday mornings at 8.45am!
