School Review

This week, we began our four-yearly School Review, with the team of independent observers spending time getting to know our school’s strengths and supporting us as we work on continual improvement. I wish to thank staff for their professionalism and openness throughout the first two days of the review, acknowledging that our collaborative and supportive team are in themselves an incredible strength of our school, and who are truly at the heart of what makes Wallington such a special and much-loved school. Day 3 and 4 of the review will follow over the next few weeks, during which we will work with the panel to develop our next school strategic plan.

Buildings & Grounds
We are so pleased with the end result now that the building works and renovations are complete. What a difference these efforts have made!

We are so grateful to the amazing parent volunteers, our Garden Club members, and the many extra hands who gave up their time over the holidays to support ongoing garden works, including establishing new playground features and maintenance of the beloved chickens and vegetable garden. A special thanks to Adam, our groundskeeper, for his work around the place, in particular improvements made to the sandpit, and to BC Garden Construction for replenishing the soft fall and installing additional rubber floor mats in the playground, which were all generously donated by Glenn and his team.

Plans and improvements are continuing in order to make the most of this fantastic new area at the front of the school. Watch this space as our grounds keep getting better!

Commitment to Child Safety

Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every child is our top priority at Wallington PS. With child safety in sharp focus across the state, we want to assure families that we remain committed to the highest standards of care and protection for every student.

Our practices are guided by the Child Safe Standards, with clear policies including our Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy and Child Safety Code of Conduct, available on our website.

Through the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) curriculum, students learn age-appropriate lessons about a range of important social and emotional subjects, including body boundaries, personal safety, consent, and respectful relationships from Prep to Year 6. These important teachings are embedded into everyday learning, helping children build confidence, awareness, and strategies to keep themselves safe.

We are also a Berry Street Education Model school, ensuring classrooms are trauma-informed and focused on creating safe, supportive environments where students feel connected and empowered.

We know that child safety is a shared responsibility, and we value working in partnership with families. We are always looking to improve our practices across all aspects of schooling and welcome feedback and suggestions. For more information on our wellbeing approach, please visit the Wellbeing Overview page on our school website. If you would like to discuss any aspect of our approach or need further support, please feel free to contact me or a member of our Wellbeing Team directly: wellbeing@wallington-ps.vic.edu.au

Strawberry Fair Update

Our next Strawberry Fair meeting will be held next Wednesday 30th July at 2:20pm in the school staffroom, and everyone is welcome! Meetings will take place fortnightly throughout Term 3 (continuing on Tuesdays 2:20pm in Weeks 4, 6, & 8), with Strawberry Fair newsletter updates to keep everyone informed of our plans.

Plans are progressing really well, and I’d like to acknowledge the particular efforts of our School Council President, Anthony Sheedy, for his leadership, as well as the proactive work of our social media and advertising committee, among many, many others continuing to work away in the background! Promotion of the fair - and our school - is happening across Facebook and Instagram, so if you’re not following us yet, now’s the time to check it out!

Call for help: Right now, we’re developing advertising boards and are calling for help from our community. If you have a property on a busy, well-travelled road and are willing to host a real estate board for the next few months, please let the school know.

Every offer of help, big or small, makes a huge difference and brings us closer to achieving our aims. It’s so exciting to see everything coming together - thank you for being part of it!
