Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Rotary Awards

Congratulations once again to our Year 6 students who successfully completed the Rotary Junior Community Award this year! A special commendation goes to Clancy and Victoria, who proudly represented the group at the Rotary Award celebratory dinner on Tuesday night. It was a pleasure for Mr Anderson and I to attend the event and see our students present with such confidence and pride alongside participants from several other schools, in front of an audience of more than 75 Rotary members, families, and teachers.

Congratulations also to all the Year 6 students who recently presented their Rotary Award projects to the Year 5 and 6 classes. Your effort, commitment, and thoughtful reflections were outstanding. The Year 5 students were clearly inspired and I’m certain they are looking forward to taking part in the program next year! For more information see: https://www.rotaryoceangrove.org.au/junior-student-awards

Thank you to Rotary Club Ocean Grove, Mr Anderson and Year 6 parents for supporting the students through this process.

Junior Basketball Rings – they’re in!

We’re so excited to share that our new junior basketball rings were installed yesterday! This achievement represents a mammoth fundraising effort from our wonderful school community. It’s incredibly special to know that every contribution, big or small, has helped make this student-driven improvement a reality. As with all our amazing equipment and facilities, I remind all students to show respect and responsibility when playing in our playgrounds so that we can all enjoy ourselves safely and happily now and into the future.

Evacuation Drill Yesterday

Well done to all students and staff for playing your part in a successful evacuation drill yesterday. Practising emergency management procedures are important for making sure our school is best prepared to respond to a variety of emergency situations. Congratulations for showing our school value of Responsibility!

Bike Ed & Swimming (Week 7 & 8)

A reminder that 5/6 Bike Ed and P-4 Swimming begin next week. These exciting programs enable our students to learn the life skills and knowledge that we strive to instil as part of our commitment to our core purpose at Wallington Primary School. We know that the students will gain so much from these programs. Please ensure that you have provided consent and paid where appropriate on Compass by the end of this week. This will help us ensure that all students are ready and prepared for the fun to begin on Monday!

2026 Planning

Planning is well underway for the year ahead. We greatly value the insight and perspectives of our students and families, and appreciate the ongoing partnership we share in supporting every child’s learning journey. While we will always take community input into careful consideration, our professional responsibility is to make informed decisions that balance the best interests of all students.

Our staff remain deeply committed to delivering the highest educational, social, and emotional outcomes for every learner and we take great pride in our shared commitment to continual improvement.

If you have specific information that you would like us to consider in planning for next year that will assist us in making the best decisions for all students, please don’t hesitate to email the school (wallington.ps@education.vic.gov.au) by Thursday 20th November.

Strawberry Fair Feedback

Thank you to everyone who either attended the Strawberry Fair feedback meeting in person on Tuesday or who took the time to offer their feedback via the survey. As you know, the fair was an overwhelming success, however there is always room for improvement. Your comments and suggestions have been compiled and heard and this feedback will help make the fair even more successful next year! At this stage, we are keen to run the fair again next November, most likely moving back to the traditional date of the third Sunday of that month (Sunday 15th November, 2026).

Addressing Racism and Discrimination in Our School Community

At our school we believe that every student deserves to learn and grow in a safe, inclusive and respectful environment. Sadly, racism and discrimination continue to be issues in the broader community. We want to affirm that here at our school we maintain a zero-tolerance stance towards the use of discriminatory words or behaviour of any kind.

We are committed to:

  • Promoting respect, kindness and understanding among all students, families and staff.

  • Ensuring that all students feel valued for who they are, no matter their background.

  • Taking immediate appropriate action when incidents of racism or discrimination are reported, so that we support those affected and help maintain a positive school culture.

  • Collaborating with our school community - including students, families and staff - to build shared awareness and to cultivate an environment where everyone actively contributes to a welcoming and respectful culture.

We encourage you as families to talk with your children about respect and difference, in particular how certain language and words, whether used directly or indirectly, can have significant impact on members of our community, and to always let us know if they witness such unacceptable behaviour. If you have suggestions about how we can further strengthen our community. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure our school remains a safe and supportive place for every student.

Art

Year 5 - Fugglers

Year 5s created these Fugglers over a term, using a variety of materials and imagination! The first process was printing stencils onto tyvek  material, creating the shape and cutting out a pattern of a Fuggler. Using a needle and thread, students applied a running stitch around the edge to sew back and front pieces together then filling it with poly stuffing. Students created a face from a range of materials such as fake looking teeth, fur, joggle eyes and fabric. Many students named their Fuggler and wrote a description about their personality.

Wonderful job Year 5s!

Wellbeing at Wallington

Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities:

This week's activity asks students to watch a video on the positive power that micro moments can have on relationships.

Students can then think about how they can tap into their powers and record them in their diary.
