Principal's Report
Dear Families,
Pyjama & Pets Day - Tomorrow
We are excited for our special dress-up day tomorrow! Don’t forget to come dressed in your pyjamas and bring along a gold coin donation to help raise money for the Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS). Please remember that actual pets are not to be brought to school, although students are welcome to bring a stuffed animal toy. Well done to the Junior School Council for organising the day and helping us support this important cause of their choice.
Division Cross Country
Well done again to the Wallington PS representatives who took part in the Division Cross Country on Tuesday! Once again, it was wonderful to hear how our students are displaying our school values and sportsmanship in the wider community with every student doing their absolute best in difficult conditions (see PE section below for more details). Thank you to Mrs Ractliffe for organising and for the parents who supported to ensure their children could compete.
5/6 students have yet another chance to compete in Lightning Prem sport next Wednesday, with Football and Netball, and we wish them all the very best for the event.
National Simultaneous Storytime & Premier’s Reading Challenge
Next Wednesday, 27th May, at 12:00pm, our school will join millions of children, parents, and educators in schools, libraries, and homes around the country to read the same picture story book at the exact same time! National Simultaneous Storytime this year features the book, Luna Roo: the Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake A. Minton. We are proud to take part in this event, which aims to encourage reading, support local authors and illustrators, and promote libraries across Australia.
This is also a good time to remind you all that the Premier’s Reading Challenge continues, so don’t forget to keep up your reading so that you can reach your targets by the end date: 4th September, 2026.

Art & Music
Preps- Self-Portraits
Preps created three pieces of artwork and joined them together to create one.
Students applied their fine motor skills pushing plasticine on to a square card and then rolled a 'snake' to create the initial of their first name.
We explored different lines and patterns on paper and included stamping paint markers in different colours. The third piece of artwork was using a photo of themselves behind clear acetate and drawing the features of their face with a black sharpie.
The results of all three artworks are outstanding!
Great effort Preps!

PE and Dance
PE /Dance Weekly Snapshot
PE Snapshot – AFL Skills, Movement Games & Year 2 Dance
This week in PE, students continued building their AFL marking skills, focusing on the Chest Mark, Hand Mark and Overhead Mark. They worked on lining their bodies up with the flight of the ball and keeping their eyes on it until the catch. To put these skills into action, students finished with a fast‑paced Handball Game, moving the ball only by handballing and scoring through goals or markers.
Some classes also explored movement and body‑control skills through Stone, Bridge and Tree. This game combines travelling with holding strong, static positions, helping students develop muscle control in the lower back and abdomen—important foundations for many sports and physical activities.
In Year 2 Dance, students were introduced to simple machines such as gears, levers and axles. Working in pairs, they created movement sequences that represented these machines, thinking about dynamics, connections and spatial relationships. The class then combined their ideas to form a “Whole Class Machine,” blending creativity, teamwork and early engineering concepts through dance.
Division Cross Country
Despite the cold, wet and muddy conditions, our small team of Wallington PS runners showed incredible resilience and spirit at the Division Cross Country. The rain didn’t dampen their enthusiasm as each of our five competitors pushed through the challenging course with determination and pride. Their effort, sportsmanship and positive attitudes were outstanding, and they represented our school beautifully. A huge congratulations to all involved.
Champion of the Week Award

Notice Board
Unexplained absences
Please check Compass for any unexplained absences for your child/s for 2026, if you could put an explanation for each one before the end of term.
An unexplained absence in compass us a record indicating that a student was marked “not present” (absent or late) without a reason entered by a parent/guardian. It means that school is aware the student is missing but not why.
How to Fix: Under the "Attendance" tab, the "Unexplained" tab lists these absences. Parents can select the relevant dates and click "Explain with Note/Approval" to provide a reason.
Why It Matters: Schools are required to ensure they know the safety of students and keep attendance records, requiring a reason for every day a student is absent/late.
If you need any assistance please contact the office.
