Dear Families,
Happy Mothers’ Day!
We hope that all the mothers and special people in our community have a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday and are thoroughly spoilt and celebrated!
A sincere thank you to our fantastic P&F for organising this week’s Mother’s Day stall and to our Visual Arts teacher, Mrs Bishop, for helping students create their beautiful hand-made gift bags. The gifts were incredibly popular, and we know they will bring plenty of joy this weekend.
Don’t forget - a second-chance Mother’s Day Stall will be running tomorrow (Friday 3:20pm) out the front of the main building for any last-minute gift ideas!
And also tickets to the P&F Disco and Term 2 Special Lunch are now open on school24. See P&F section below for all the details.
No Assembly Tomorrow
With our lucky Year 6 leaders due to take part in the 5/6 Soccer Lightning Premiership tournament tomorrow, there will be no assembly tomorrow afternoon. This week’s awards and celebrations will be presented at next week’s assembly.
Sponsorship 2026-2027
A reminder that this week is the final opportunity for Wallington Primary School families to access priority sponsorship opportunities for the 2026/27 financial year before packages are opened more broadly. With limited Platinum and Gold packages available, we encourage interested families to express interest soon. Please see the attached flyer for details, with hard copies also available at the office.

Strawberry Fair Coordinators - Initial Planning Meeting
We have had a positive response to our initial call for Strawberry Fair coordinators, with a strong core group meeting this week, ready to begin planning for the Sunday 15th November event.
To help guide our planning, we will shortly send out a simple volunteer survey asking families to indicate their level of support and availability to volunteer in the lead-up to, and during, the event. This information will be incredibly valuable in helping us understand our community capacity and determine the scale at which we can confidently and successfully run the 2026 Strawberry Fair.
We are deeply grateful for every offer of support, no matter how big or small. The Strawberry Fair is a significant event for our school and wider community, bringing people together and attracting visitors from across the region and beyond. Its success relies on the shared effort, energy and spirit of our community.
Learning from the success of last year’s Fair, there are strong structures, planning processes and support systems in place. While there will certainly be refinements made in direct response to the valuable feedback we actively gathered from the community last year, the overall structure and approach will remain largely the same given how successful the model proved to be.
The following coordinator roles set for this year are: Planning & Site Management (Cameron Edwards & Kieran Thomson); Social Media & Advertising (Celeste Gardner & Emma McPhail); Auction (Scot & Selina Kerr); Market Stall & Food Vendors (Michelle Kallady); Entertainment & Activities (Jess Mayo); Strawberry Hall & Catering (Michelle Oataway & James Bond-Kennedy) & Administration (Kate & Nicole).
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any of the coordinators if you would like to get involved. Help of any kind is warmly welcomed, and being part of the Fair is a fantastic way to meet new people, contribute to the school community and share in a challenging, rewarding and much-loved tradition.

We are creating a boot garden in term 2 and trying to include as many students as possible. HOW CUTE!

Art & Music
Year 1 & 2 'Year of the Horse' prints
Year 1 & 2 students discovered and experimented with Gelli printing to create patterns and texture.
We discussed the Year of the Horse in Chinese astrology is widely recognised as a period of high energy and rapid movement and that every year has a different animal to a birth year. Students printed with black paint on A3 paper using everyday items such as forks or lids to make patterns. Using a template we cut out shapes of the horse and glued together on black paper. For the horse's mane and tail we used our Gelli prints to show a contrast in colour and design.
These are stunning! Great effort Year 1 & 2s!

PE and Dance
PE /Dance Weekly Snapshot
This week in Dance, students explored how movement can express different emotions. Using their bodies in creative ways, they experimented with showing feelings such as joy, surprise, calmness, and frustration. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they discovered how movement can communicate meaning.
In PE, students continued developing their game skills through practising ball control, passing, and striking. They were also introduced to the idea of scoring a goal past a goalkeeper, building teamwork and decision‑making along the way.
Some classes also took part in activities designed to build spatial awareness and peripheral vision—important skills for moving safely and effectively during games. Through activities like Flip It/Bulldozers and Builders and Form a Group, students learned to stay aware of others while moving and to react quickly in changing situations.
It’s been a fantastic week of movement, creativity, and skill‑building for our students!

Austin showed amazing confidence this week by getting up on stage and performing for his peers. He did a fantastic job using movement to express different emotions, and his creativity really shone through. Well done, Austin — we’re so proud of you!

Unexplained absences
Please check Compass for any unexplained absences for your child/s for 2026, if you could put an explanation for each one before the end of term.
An unexplained absence in compass us a record indicating that a student was marked “not present” (absent or late) without a reason entered by a parent/guardian. It means that school is aware the student is missing but not why.
How to Fix: Under the "Attendance" tab, the "Unexplained" tab lists these absences. Parents can select the relevant dates and click "Explain with Note/Approval" to provide a reason.
Why It Matters: Schools are required to ensure they know the safety of students and keep attendance records, requiring a reason for every day a student is absent/late.

SAVER PLUS
What it is:
Financial Education and Savings:
Saver Plus is a 10-month online program designed to help participants learn about financial management, set savings goals, and develop regular saving habits.
Matched Savings:
Participants who complete the program have their savings matched by ANZ, up to a maximum of $500, which can be used for education-related costs.
Online Delivery:
The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants across Australia.
Saver Plus is a partnership between ANZ, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, The Smith Family and Berry Street.
Eligibility: To be eligible, participants need to have a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and an eligible Centrelink payment, have other regular income, be studying themselves or have a child in school, be 18+ years old, and agree to join in free online financial education workshops.
