Dear Families,
Special Lunch Fish and Chips - Thank You!
A huge thank you to our wonderful Parents & Friends volunteers for organising and running Tuesday's Fish and Chip Lunch. The event was incredibly popular with students and was a fantastic success.
Special lunch days like these are always a highlight for our students. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, assisted behind the scenes, and supported the event. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing contribution of our Parents & Friends group and all they do for our school community. Funds raised from the event will help support specific future special events and activities for our students, with planning already underway for more exciting opportunities later in the year.
Supporting Positive Behaviour at WPS
At Wallington, we want every student to feel safe, supported and ready to learn. This term, staff have been implementing a clear and consistent approach to supporting positive behaviour and responding to behavioural challenges, aligned with our values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
This work brings together our behaviour expectations and response processes into a shared approach used consistently across all classrooms and learning environments.
The focus is on teaching and reinforcing the behaviours we want to see, while helping students understand the impact of their choices when things don't go to plan. Staff use consistent strategies across the school, including reminders, reteaching expectations, restorative conversations and opportunities for reflection.
We know children are most successful when home and school work together. Families can support this approach by talking positively about our school values, encouraging respectful and responsible behaviour, and reinforcing the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.
Our goal is simple: to help every student learn from their experiences, strengthen their relationships with others, and continue to grow as respectful, responsible and resilient members of our school community.

Celebrating Positive Attendance
Earlier this term, we shared information about the importance of regular school attendance and the positive impact it has on student learning, wellbeing, engagement, and connection to our school community. Thank you to families for your ongoing support in helping make attendance a priority.
We are pleased to celebrate the many students who have achieved our attendance target of 90% or above this term. Consistent attendance helps students build strong learning habits, maintain friendships, participate fully in classroom experiences, and make the most of every opportunity school has to offer.
Parents and carers of students who have achieved this milestone will shortly receive a Compass message congratulating them on their child's positive attendance. These students will also automatically be entered into our 'Every Day Counts' End of Term Attendance Raffle, which will be drawn at our final assembly on the last day of term.
Whether your child has achieved the target this term or is still working towards it, every day at school makes a difference. We encourage all students to continue building positive attendance habits and look forward to celebrating even more success in the future. Thank you for your partnership in supporting student attendance and engagement at school.
Mid-Year Parent-Teacher Interviews
A reminder to families that bookings are now open for our upcoming Parent-Teacher Interviews for students in Years 1–6. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 23 June and Wednesday 24 June, with bookings available through Compass.
Parent-Teacher Interviews provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress, celebrate their achievements, and reflect on their learning throughout Semester 1. Families are also encouraged to use this time to ask questions and seek clarification about their child's Semester Report, which will be published on Compass on Monday.
We encourage all families to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with their child's teacher and continue our important home-school partnership in supporting student learning and wellbeing.
Please note, interviews are 10-minutes in length, timetabled at 15-minute intervals to allow time between back-to-back appointments.
Evacuation Drill Reminder
And finally, a reminder to families that tomorrow morning, Friday 19 June, we will be conducting an evacuation drill during Session 2. As part of our regular emergency management procedures, students and staff will practice evacuating to our secondary assembly point, located just outside the school grounds alongside the main driveway.
If you need to attend the school during this time, please be aware that students and staff will be moving through and gathering in this area as part of the drill. Thank you for helping us keep our students, staff and community safe at school.

Art & Music
Creative Line Art in Prep!
Our Prep students have been exploring the power of lines inspired by the book The Squiggle by Carole Lexa Schaefer.
First, students designed a unique line on hessian fabric. They practiced fine motor skills by learning how to use a sewing needle and thread, mastering a running stitch and threading colourful beads. Next, they extended their lines off the hessian onto the background using Posca paint pens, adding a Sharpie border. Finally, they glued on a natural stick from outside to create a hanging handle.
We are so proud of our young artists and their beautiful, multi-textured masterpieces! Well done!

PE and Dance
PE /Dance Weekly Snapshot
In PE, students focused on long‑distance putting, developing control, accuracy and a smooth follow‑through to keep the ball rolling straight toward the target. They played Mega Putt before finishing with a tense team putt‑off, ending in a dramatic 1–7 victory. The stakes were high, the cheers were loud, and it was a real putt‑ticularly exciting moment. These putting skills continue to build confidence and precision.
In Dance, students explored Wind Dance, experimenting with flowing, sweeping wind movements. Working collaboratively, they created short sequences showing gentle breezes and powerful gusts, learning how movement quality can express the changing wind.

Congratulations to Flynn in year 2
Congratulations to Flynn for his fantastic participation in our Wind Dance lesson. He worked beautifully with his peers to create flowing sequences that showed gentle breezes and powerful gusts, demonstrating expressive movement quality and strong teamwork. Flynn stayed engaged, focused, and brought the changing wind to life through his dancing.

Unexplained absences
Please check Compass for any unexplained absences for your child/s for 2026, if you could put an explanation for each one before the end of term.
An unexplained absence in compass us a record indicating that a student was marked “not present” (absent or late) without a reason entered by a parent/guardian. It means that school is aware the student is missing but not why.
How to Fix: Under the "Attendance" tab, the "Unexplained" tab lists these absences. Parents can select the relevant dates and click "Explain with Note/Approval" to provide a reason.
Why It Matters: Schools are required to ensure they know the safety of students and keep attendance records, requiring a reason for every day a student is absent/late.

SAVER PLUS
What it is:
Financial Education and Savings:
Saver Plus is a 10-month online program designed to help participants learn about financial management, set savings goals, and develop regular saving habits.
Matched Savings:
Participants who complete the program have their savings matched by ANZ, up to a maximum of $500, which can be used for education-related costs.
Online Delivery:
The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants across Australia.
Saver Plus is a partnership between ANZ, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, The Smith Family and Berry Street.
Eligibility: To be eligible, participants need to have a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and an eligible Centrelink payment, have other regular income, be studying themselves or have a child in school, be 18+ years old, and agree to join in free online financial education workshops.
