Principal's Report

Dear Families,

New Building Now Open!

This week represented an exciting moment in the history and future of our school as the $2.1million Capital Works Project was finalised and handed over as completed. Year 1 and Preps are so excited to have moved in and are already loving their new learning spaces!

We are so grateful for the project, providing a much-needed rejuvenation of our facilities as well as upgrades and improvements throughout the school. We wish to thank Lyons Construction and 3iD Architecture for their incredible professionalism and collaboration throughout the project.

Can I reiterate that the front of school (between the main road and the new concrete footpath) is out of bounds for all members of the school community as we complete some finishing touches over the next few weeks.

Painting continues in the Year 2 and former Year 1 classrooms. The Year 2s will be working in the library for the next few days. We thank the Year 2 teachers and students for their cooperation and understanding.

EARLY 2:30PM START – This Friday Assembly Music Performances

We are thrilled to include a range of student musical performances as part of this Friday’s whole school assembly. The wonderful Andrew Wheeler, from At School Music (https://www.wallington-ps.vic.edu.au/at-school-music), is preparing many of our students for an upcoming performance at the Geelong Arts Centre and we are lucky enough to have our own preview of their recitals. Assembly will begin at the earlier time of 2:30pm to allow time for this special treat!

Tickets to the main event on Monday 30th June are available for anyone in the school community who would like to attend. https://geelongartscentre.org.au/whats-on/all-events/young-musicians-in-concert-mid-year-tuition-performance/

Parent Teacher Interviews – Bookings Now Open

As you know, Semester 1 Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place on Tuesday 1st July. Bookings are now open on Compass and are filling up fast (see Newsfeed from Monday). 10-minute time slots will be available throughout the afternoon and early evening.

Semester 1 Student Reports will be made available on Compass Monday 30th June.

Year 6 Debating Success

Congratulations to our Year 6 Debating Teams who once again claimed victory in both of their debates, held here at Wallington Primary School on Wednesday afternoon against visiting teams from Kardinia International College.

Charlie, Zara and Evie argued against the topic "That all social media platforms should have an age limit for use", while Victoria, Clancy, and Lily took on the affirmative side. Both teams spoke with confidence and clarity, with Evie and Lily awarded Best Speaker in their respective debates.

A big thank you to Brianna for volunteering as Chairperson and to Eliza for stepping in as Timekeeper on the day. Thank you also to Kardinia for visiting and taking part in such a friendly and respectful competition.

We also extend our thanks to all the parents who supported their children in preparing for this event - it was a fantastic team effort all round!

In the next round, students will receive their topic just 30 minutes before the debate begins, adding an exciting new challenge.

Physical Education News

Dear Families,

Today we sent our Division Mixed Netball Team to Kardinia Park to compete in the Division Lightening Prem netball day. In this competition we are representing the Bellarine District by winning the District level of the competition.

Wallington played 3 amazing games, one of which only losing by 1 goal. The grade 6 students were such great mentors encouraging the grade 5 girls for their first divisional games.

Kat (Parent Helper) has been very kind in coaching our netball team again, thanks so much for all your help and support. You are a superstar!

We would also like to wish Kiyomi the best of luck and lightening speed in the Regional Level Cross Country! Boy its a hilly one………..
