Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Last Week Term 2

  • Early Assembly & Early Finish

It is hard to believe we are heading into the final week of Term 2, signifying the halfway point of the year! Just a reminder that we will have our end of term assembly on Friday, exactly one hour earlier than usual, beginning at 1:50pm. School will also finish one hour earlier at 2:20pm.

  • PJ Dress-Up Day – Last Day of School (Friday 4th July)

The Junior School Council is excited to be hosting a Pyjama Day to wrap up the term! Students, staff, and even parents at drop-off or pick-up are warmly invited to wear their favourite pyjamas to school. We’re asking for a gold coin donation on the day, with all funds going to support Story Dogs – a wonderful literacy program that pairs children with a trained dog and volunteer handler for weekly one-on-one reading sessions. A big thank you to Liz and Sally, our amazing Story Dogs team at Wallington Primary School, for the work they do to make reading a positive and confidence-building experience for our students.

Plants and Planting – Thank you!

A huge thank you to Van Loons Nursery for donating many of the plants for the new welcome courtyard. Van Loons have been a long-time supporter of the school, donating regularly to us, contributing to the amazing gardens we are so lucky to enjoy. I must also sincerely thank our garden club volunteers both for organising the new gardens and for the wonderful work they do to support all gardens across the school - even planting in some of the tricky weather this week!

Really importantly, I ask that we all show extra respect to the new gardens and do not walk across the garden beds or touch any of the new plants. It is a key part of our behaviour expectations and our learning across the curriculum that we always show respect to our environment, never more important than when new plants are trying to grow and establish themselves.

Parent Teacher Interviews – Bookings Close Monday

As you know, Semester 1 Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place next Tuesday 1st July. 10-minute time slots are available throughout the afternoon and early evening. Bookings will close on Monday afternoon. We kindly ask parents/carers to support the teachers in sticking to the schedule by respecting the 10-minute allocated time. As always, if you need to make more time, feel free to make arrangements with teachers.

Parent Payments

As you will have seen, a parent payment reminder went out on News Feed this week. We are so grateful for all contributions as they continue to come through. Every contribution directly impacts our students’ school experiences. We accept contributions all through the year, it’s never too late to support!

Painting – Attention: Year 2 & 5

Year 2 are excited to move back into their freshly painted classroom tomorrow. Next being painted is the former Prep classroom, and the Year 5 classroom will follow. Year 5 will relocate to the library for the few days from Monday (meaning Year 5 Parent Teacher Interviews with Mr K-T will run out of the library on Tuesday). All of the remaining rooms, hallways and doors in the main building will be painted between now and the end of the School Holidays.

Strawberry Fair Update

Planning for the Strawberry Fair continues with significant strides being taken to ensure a successful fair on Sunday 2nd November. Next week we will release the first Strawberry Fair Newsletter, which will provide some clarity around the whole event as it is shaping up, and most importantly, how you can get involved! I have spent a significant amount of time hearing of past experiences, including from parents, community groups and members, and past Principals. With these learnings in mind, we are so excited to get the opportunity to build on this legacy as a continually evolving event that celebrates the best of our school and the region. We are most excited to get as many people involved, focusing on a renewed sense of positivity and connection after several years where the fair has not gone ahead. Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm!

Pizza Lunch – Thank you!

Thank you to the P&F for organising our special pizza lunch for tomorrow. Bakers Delight are once again looking after us and students are set to enjoy the occasion!

Art Gallery

Year 5 & 6 Fancy Fences

Our Year 5 and 6 students discussed the difference between graffiti art and street art. Students created a 3D fence with large paddle pop sticks glued together and then created their own original designs on paper, using graffiti font if using letters. Applying paint and posca pens, students coloured in their design and once finished embedded the fence in a foam base. Magiclay was moulded around the foam, students then painted over the magiclay and glued on details of rocks, moss and trees making these look realistic. Super job Year 5 and 6! They look fantastic!

Wellbeing at Wallington

Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities:

This week’s activity focuses on the Berry Street domain of Stamina.

The Stamina domain helps students overcome adversity, embrace opportunities for growth, and stay engaged in learning over extended periods of time.

  • The activity asks students to track their time on task during a lesson, but they can also track their time on task when completing their reading or even their chores!
