Wallington P.S. Newsletter Term 3 Week 9 2025
Upcoming Dates
Principal's Report
Dear Families,
End of Term 3
As we close out the term, I want to sincerely thank everyone for their support and contributions in making this such a positive and enriching time for our students. From events, excursions and camps to the many opportunities in classrooms, clubs and specialist programs, our students have embraced every experience with enthusiasm. The joy and sense of achievement we see in our students each day is a constant reminder of our core prupose, as we work collectively for the best interests of their learning, growth and success.
A reminder that Term 3 finishes tomorrow with an early assembly at 1:45pm followed by an early dismissal at 2:20pm. I wish all our students and families a safe and happy holiday break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 6th October for the start of Term 4.
Good Luck Year 6 Basketballers!
As you know, the Year 6 girls basketball team qualified for Division competition in basketball and will take part in the event tommorow. We wish them all the best and thank Kirsty for coaching and Sandra for supporting!
Fundraising and Strawberry Fair
As discussed at our most recent Strawberry Fair meeting, one of our three aims is fundraising and we are working hard to raise funds for projects that will directly benefit our students and enhance their learning and wellbeing. Student input and voice is important and continues to inform how we make improvements, with the Junior School Council informing where and how we do so. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead, with several key initiatives earmarked for investment:
Development of a Passive Play Area at the new west-facing gardens
Sports equipment
More general interest books
Ongoing investment in phonics-based readers to support literacy growth
Further investment in technology upgrades to strengthen digital learning
Sustainable Energy Planning, including upgrading to renewable electricity and phasing out gas
We are especially thrilled to know that we will soon have our much-anticipated junior basketball rings! Thanks to Boomering, who have provided a generous package—which includes a donated portable ring for our Strawberry Fair Silent Auction as well as supply and installation within our initial budget target—we are now on the brink of reaching our goal!
This has been made possible by the incredible support of our community through supporting P&F events such as the election day BBQ, Glow Disco, Raffles and Special Lunches, as well as school-run fundraisers like gold coin dress-up days and the Container Deposit Scheme, and multiple generous anonymous donations. This marks an incredible achievement from such a supportive and generous community! Well done and thank you to everyone involved!!
Remember, Strawberry Fair Volunteer Sign-up is ongoing, with a range of big and small tasks and slots open for your help. Sign-up is quick and easy through 'Sign-up' at this link: https://signup.com/go/jkYoZjr
Strawberry Fair pre-sale all-access passes are available for Wallington families at $45 per person. Order now through COMPASSTIX here.
General Public tickets are also available for $59 here.
Working Bees
We are seeking a couple of volunteers to help our grounds and maintenance man, Adam, apply some paint to the library building. He will be painting on Friday 10th October, and would love a couple of helpers to get the job done. Please contact the office if you are able to help (wallington.ps@education.vic.gov.au).
We will also be running a Strawberry Fair preparation Working Bee on Friday 24th October, and would love as many helpers as possible – more information to follow at the start of term.
SunSmart Schools
As we head into the holidays and the warmer months, it’s a timely reminder for students and families about the importance of being SunSmart. Protecting ourselves from harmful UV rays means remembering the essentials: wearing broad-brimmed or bucket hats, choosing clothing that covers the skin, seeking shade, applying (and reapplying) SPF50+ sunscreen, and wearing sunglasses when outdoors.
At school, we are reviewing our SunSmart policy and are excited to have applied for accreditation as a SunSmart School. This will further strengthen our commitment to sun safety by promoting positive choices such as compulsory hat and sunscreen use, wise scheduling of outdoor activities, maximising use of our natural and built shade, and encouraging role modelling by staff, parents and visitors.
We encourage everyone to keep up these good habits over the holidays and to follow the SunSmart message: Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide.

Art
Dear families,
Year 3 & 4 Clay Castles
After investigating the architecture of castles in their classroom, Year 3 and 4 created a castle in clay. After building skills in rolling clay, making coils and joining techniques, students created their castle with 3D parts. We explored texture by using stencils or pressing in clay tools. After firing, students decorated their castle with oil pastels and painted food dye over the top. Fantastic job, they look great!

Wellbeing at Wallington
Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities:
Congratulations on making it to the end of Term 3!
It’s been a short but busy term, I’m sure everyone is looking forward to a change of pace in the holidays.
This week and next week's diary activities focus on character strengths and our school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility.
We have introduced our students to the concept of character strengths during a previous Wellbeing Day, so this is a great chance to refresh their understanding of it.
