Wallington P.S. Newsletter Term 4 Week 1 2025
Upcoming Dates
Principal's Report
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 4! We have lots more fun and excitement planned this term so hopefully everyone is feeling rested and ready to go for the next eleven busy weeks!
New Activity Spaces and Lizard Garden
Firstly, I wanted to say a big thank you to the Year 3 & 4 students, Mr Vaught and parents (Rina and Jess) involved in creating the lizard gardens at the front of the school at the end of last term. They look amazing and I’m certain the lizards (and people!) around our school are appreciating your efforts!
Additionally, what an amazing job the Garden Club parents, students, staff, and volunteers have done, working hard to create new spaces and activities for our lucky students at the front of the school!! See photos below.
Strawberry Fair
With just over three weeks to go, it’s time for our Wallington community to come together and celebrate this significant Bellarine tradition. This is about collaboration, uniting as one, and creating an event we can all be proud of - demonstrating our values of respect, resilience, and care for one another.
There are so many ways to get involved, and every contribution matters. Whether it’s a few hours, offering ideas, or lending a hand where it’s needed, your participation helps strengthen our school and shows our children the importance of being active, positive members of a community – which is at the heart of what we all value at Wallington.
The many volunteers who have already stepped forward are the heart of this effort, and their dedication shows what’s possible when we work together. If you haven’t had the chance to get involved yet, there’s still plenty of time to join in. The more everyone lends a hand, the more we create an event that’s enjoyable, welcoming, and truly something to celebrate as a whole community.
How to Get Involved
Strawberry Fair Committee meetings will be held every Tuesday 2:20 pm – 3:20 pm from now until the fair. You can continue to sign up for as many volunteering spots as you can through 'Sign-up' at this link: https://signup.com/go/jkYoZjr or get in touch with our year level coordinators – every extra pair of hands makes a huge difference:

Silent Auction Now Live
I also want to thank our Auctioneers who have done an outstanding job of collecting and presenting so many amazing auction items! These are now all available and bidding is open at: https://airauctioneer.com/wallington-primary-school-strawberry-fair-silent-auction-2025
Posters
Strawberry Fair corflute and posters of varying size are available at the front office for anyone able to display or drop-in to businesses and shopfronts. Help us reach as many people as we can to make our event as successful as possible.

Let’s rally behind our tradition, contribute where we can, and make this event one our school and our children will remember with pride!
Parent Opinion Survey
Thank you to everyone who completed the Parent Opinion Survey last term. Your time and thoughtful feedback are invaluable and play a key role in guiding our school’s improvement. As we are currently developing our new Strategic Plan, your input is already helping shape our priorities. Earlier this week, we began drafting the Key Improvement Strategies and Actions with our review panel, which will guide our next phase of growth.
Whilst the strategic plan is yet to be finalised, the following key themes for improvement from the Parent Opinion Survey are directly informing our goals:
Enhancing Parent/Carer Connection to Learning
Maximising Curiosity Within Learning
Strengthening Wellbeing Supports and Strategies
I thank you again for your input. Open communication and direct engagement with the school are the most effective ways to influence positive outcomes. Families are encouraged to reach out at any time - by phone, email, or in person. I remain committed to continuous improvement and value the constructive contributions of all community members. Raising suggestions through these channels allows us to address improvement thoughtfully and ensure our efforts always strengthen the learning environment for every student.
Thank you to our community for your time, energy, and goodwill. Together, with collaboration, trust, and shared purpose, we will continue to deliver a school where every child can thrive - and where continuous improvement is both a promise and a priority.
Asthma Reminder
As spring brings higher pollen levels and changing weather, students with asthma or allergies may be more affected. We are committed to supporting student health through clear care plans and safe environments. Families are encouraged to continue to review and update their child’s Asthma Action Plan, ensure the school has a current copy, and provide any required medication. Checking daily pollen and thunderstorm asthma alerts, encouraging preventer use, and keeping relievers accessible all help children stay safe. Together, by preparing at home and school, we can ensure every student enjoys a healthy and active spring season.

Wallington P.S. Gardening Club is on every Tuesday at 1:40pm. Everyone is welcome!
Do you love nature, gardening, or just want to help our school bloom? The Wallington P.S. Gardening Club is always looking for volunteers!
We hope everyone is enjoying the new play space at the school!
The Garden Club has been busy creating a special area designed for children to explore, imagine, and play. The space begins with a mud kitchen, perfect for some creative “mud cake baking,” before leading through a wooden doorway made from a large branch into a play area with sand and activity trays where imaginations can run wild.
Surrounding the space is a beautiful wooden path that leads to our brand-new hopscotch, lovingly decorated and painted by Tilly and Lotta (Grade 1) and Tilly’s brother Mason — thank you for your colourful contribution!
As you follow the path, you’ll spot some kangaroo garden décor, and just beyond that, perhaps the largest noughts and crosses you’ve ever seen! Children can lift and carry the game pieces themselves for a fun, hands-on experience. There’s also a seating area where others can relax and watch the play unfold.
The space is finished with beautifully painted possum boxes — unique art pieces created in Art class with Michelle Bishop — and surrounded by flowering grasses to bring the area to life.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible:
Justin Baring for relocating the mud kitchen he built and for crafting the new play trays.
The Halliwell family for the generous donation of pavers.
Michelle Bishop for leading the possum box art project.
And a very special thank you to Jimmy and Jess Graham for dedicating many hours to preparing, cutting, delivering all the wood slices, stumps, and rocks and creating it all and bringing our Garden Club vision to life.
We are so grateful for the time, creativity, and support of our school community — this wonderful space could not have been created without you all.

Art
Dear families,
Year 1 & 2 Pencil Cases
There's nothing like functional artwork that serves a purpose! Year 1 and 2 students painted a background with acrylic colours on their pencil cases and then experimented with printing stencils over the top, using a dabbing technique. Learning how to write letters in bubble writing, students wrote their name in pencil over the printing and then decorated with posca pens.
Fantastic work Year 1 and 2s!

Wellbeing at Wallington
Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities:
Our first activity for Term 4 focuses on personal values.
Our students are familiar with our school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility and this is a great opportunity for them to consider what values are most important to them.
If students identify lots of personal values that can reflect on their top five so that they can compare them to those of family members and friends
