Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Seasonal Reminders

Hats & Sunscreen: Remember our “No Hat, No Play” policy — broad-brimmed hats and sunscreen are a must during Term 4.

Mosquitos: They’re out and about! Students are encouraged to come to school with insect repellent (dots or roll-on are best).

Snakes: As always, take care around the school grounds, garden areas and fences. We continue to work proactively to keep our community safe, teaching students what to do and keeping grounds neat and tidy. If a snake is spotted, students should move away calmly and alert a staff member immediately.

Icy Poles: Back by popular demand! On days above 27°C — and every Friday — icy poles will be available for $1.

However due to the success of the Icy Poles today (see photos below) there will be none for sale tomorrow.

Geelong Cup Public Holiday

Just a reminder that there will be no school next Wednesday 22nd October due to the Geelong Cup Public Holiday.

Strawberry Fair

17 days to go and organisation is in full swing!! The latest edition of the Strawberry Fair Newsletter will be published separately shorty for more important details, but I’d just like to say a huge thank you to the many passionate volunteers pulling together at this time!

As planning ramps up, it’s natural for volunteers to feel the pressure - but it’s also a reminder of how much care and commitment goes into this event every year.

This year brings a few changes - new faces, a revised layout, new ideas, new energy - all part of how we grow and strengthen our community. What remains the same is our shared purpose: to create a fun, welcoming day that celebrates connection, pride and teamwork.

Whether your role is big or small, every effort makes a difference. Our Fair’s success depends on everyone pitching in and supporting one another.

We’re also putting strong safety measures in place. The Fair will be fully secured with fencing around the school boundaries (sponsored by Direct Temporary Fencing) and GO Traffic Management overseeing traffic management and pedestrian flow to ensure a safe and smooth experience for everyone. Financially, the Fair is on solid ground thanks to intelligent planning, local business sponsorships and community partnerships. With good weather and great teamwork, we’re set for a fantastic day.

How to Get Involved

Strawberry Fair Committee meetings will be held every Tuesday 2:20 pm – 3:20 pm from now until the fair. Additional general set-up Sunday morning slots have been opened up by popular demand for those wanting to get in early for the final touches and preparations.

Thankyou for supporting our fundraiser!

Wallington P.S. Gardening Club is on every Tuesday at 1:40pm. Everyone is welcome!

Do you love nature, gardening, or just want to help our school bloom? The Wallington P.S. Gardening Club is always looking for volunteers!

We hope everyone is enjoying the new play space at the school!

The Garden Club has been busy creating a special area designed for children to explore, imagine, and play. The space begins with a mud kitchen, perfect for some creative “mud cake baking,” before leading through a wooden doorway made from a large branch into a play area with sand and activity trays where imaginations can run wild.

Surrounding the space is a beautiful wooden path that leads to our brand-new hopscotch, lovingly decorated and painted by Tilly and Lotta (Grade 1) and Tilly’s brother Mason — thank you for your colourful contribution!

As you follow the path, you’ll spot some kangaroo garden décor, and just beyond that, perhaps the largest noughts and crosses you’ve ever seen! Children can lift and carry the game pieces themselves for a fun, hands-on experience. There’s also a seating area where others can relax and watch the play unfold.

The space is finished with beautifully painted possum boxes — unique art pieces created in Art class with Michelle Bishop — and surrounded by flowering grasses to bring the area to life.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible:

  • Justin Baring for relocating the mud kitchen he built and for crafting the new play trays.

  • The Halliwell family for the generous donation of pavers.

  • Michelle Bishop for leading the possum box art project.

  • And a very special thank you to Jimmy and Jess Graham for dedicating many hours to preparing, cutting, delivering all the wood slices, stumps, and rocks and creating it all and bringing our Garden Club vision to life.

We are so grateful for the time, creativity, and support of our school community — this wonderful space could not have been created without you all.

Art

Dear families,

Prep - Clay Tiles

Preps explored skills in using clay such as rolling coils to make the first initial of their name and pushing stencils into clay to make texture. We learnt the technique of joining two bits of clay together using score and slip. Once fired, Preps decorated their clay tile with fluro oil pastels and painted food dye over the top. A handle was made from a pipe cleaner, with beads threaded on for decoration.

Fabulous effort Preps!

Wellbeing at Wallington

Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities:

This week's activity is an extension of last week's activity but instead of looking at their own character strengths, students are looking for the same values in others.

After scanning the QR code on page 79 and watching the video students can choose someone and identify their strengths.
