Principal's Report
Dear Families,
2026 Prep Transition
Today we welcomed our 2026 prep students for their third transition session. This time the students took part in a special Art lesson as they continued familiarising themselves with the ins and outs of our school, best preparing them for the start of their journey at Wallington Primary School. The new students have one final transition session later in the term where they will meet their 2026 Year 6 buddies – I’m not sure who is more excited, the new preps or the Year 5s!
Working Bee Tomorrow: Friday 24th October 2pm – 5pm
As preparations continue for next week’s Strawberry Fair, we welcome you to join us for a working bee as we prepare the grounds and facilities for the big day.
Jobs on the list include:
- Spreading soft fall mulch on the playgrounds at the oval
- Levelling ground on the oval
- Painting the west-facing wall of the library building
- Cleaning the hall
- Organising equipment and materials in the Strawberry Fair shed
Many hands make light work, so come along for as long as you can – all help is welcome and appreciated!
No Assembly Friday 31st October
Please note there will be no assembly next Friday 31st as preparations will be underway in and around the hall for the Strawberry Fair.
P&F – Last Call for Orders
A huge thank you to the P&F for organising the upcoming Halloween Special Morning Tea and the Mangoes Fundraiser. Don’t miss out! Orders for the Halloween Special Morning Tea close on Monday (27th Oct) and Mango orders close on Wednesday (29th Oct). See below for all the details.
Strawberry Fair
We are now up to over 90 individual volunteers supporting across the two days – which is an outstanding result – already fulfilling one of the three key aims: to unite as a whole school community! Well done and thank you to everyone who has signed up, particularly to the fantastic core group of committee members and responsibility holders who have been doing incredible work to pull everything together over the last six months.
Ticket sales are going well, with many lucky students and families taking up the offer of the presale all access passes. As we have said from the start, way back in mid-April when planning began, we all want to ensure that our students and families get to enjoy the day as much as anyone, hence the thoughtful layout with rides and activities contained within the oval area. Also, the more hands helping with Wallington family-run aspects, the more chances for our parents and families to also have time to enjoy the fair in between volunteering slots.
On Sunday, volunteers should sign in and out with our coordinators (see below); the following leaders will have all the necessary details, including task instructions, volunteer lists, emergency procedures, and cash and sales management.
- Prep (Silent Auction): Selina Hoyer and Scott Kerr
- Year 1 (Devonshire Tea): Bianca and Chris Micallef
- Year 2 (Strawberries & Pavlovas): Michelle Oataway
- Year 3 (Tickets & Gates): Monica Tullin
- Year 4 (Tie Dye & Crafty Kids): Rina Morgan

Art
Dear families,
Preps - Orange-bellied Parrot
We discussed how the Orange-Bellied Parrot is listed as critically endangered, with fewer than 50 individuals believed to be in the wild. It is one of only three migratory parrot species in the world and travels to the mainland for the non-breeding season. Preps used oil sticks to colour in the Orange-bellied parrot, making sure to add in its orange belly! We traced an image of the parrot on to acetate with black sharpie and then glued this over the top of the oil pastel art work.
They look fantastic! Well done Preps!

Wellbeing at Wallington
Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities:
- This week's activity asks students to think about all the things in their lives that they are grateful for.
- In their diaries they can draw or write the things they would like to get for their next birthday and then list the things they are grateful for.
