Wallington P.S. Newsletter Term 1 Week 2 2026
Upcoming Dates
Principal's Report
Dear Families,
Welcome Back!
Welcome to the first newsletter of 2026! Already nearing the end of week two, students have settled in well to their new classes and have been busy learning the routines and revisiting our School Wide Expected Behaviours. As you may know, the expected behaviour Matrix is available on our website and I would recommend familiarising yourself with the behaviours we encourage each day. Staff will consistently refer to the matrix, reinforcing positive behaviours with praise, acknowledgement and tokens that can be used for rewards through the year.
New specialist classes have also begun, and students are thoroughly enjoying the additional access to a greater range of specialist subjects, including Music, Media Arts and Dance. Our students are so fortunate to have these subjects as part of our program, yet another unique offering of our school.
Our newsletters will continue each week, as will our Friday afternoon assemblies, which commence tomorrow at the usual time of 2:45pm in the hall. Clear, consistent communication is a priority at Wallington, and the weekly newsletter is the key channel for important information, expectations, and upcoming events. We ask all families to read this carefully each week to stay informed and connected.
Breakfast Club
We are pleased to share that breakfast club will now be open twice a week from 8:45am - 9am every Tuesday and Wednesday. Thanks to the ongoing donations from families, Bakers Delight, and to our association with School Breakfast Clubs Program and Foodbank Victoria. Thank you too to Ms Cook and Mr Ellery who will be supporting the program each week.
Library Lunchtime Access
Now that the library has moved to its central location, from today, students have access to the space during lunchtime to engage in quiet reading or passive play activities. We continue to offer additional lunch time clubs, with craft club (Thursdays) and imagination station (Daily) already underway, and Minecraft Club (Wednesdays) soon to commence.
P&F AGM 2026 – FRIDAY 20th February
Parents & Friends play a vital role in shaping our school community, bringing ideas, energy, and collaboration to support our students. A new year brings an opportunity to be part of a constructive, respectful, and united group, focused on making a positive difference. If you are keen to get involved, you’ll help create a welcoming, innovative, and vibrant P&F - a space where fresh ideas, shared effort, and community spirit come together to benefit all our students. The first meeting of the year is Friday 20th February at 9am (see P&F section below).
Meet & Greet - Parent Teacher Interviews
Tomorrow I will send out details of Meet & Greet - Parent Teacher Interviews, which will take place in Week 4, Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th February. Bookings will be made through Compass. These meetings are always seen as a valuable opportunity for teachers and parents/carers to connect and set-up for a successful year and I thank you in advance for your participation.
As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child’s teacher with any questions throughout the year. You are welcome to message via Compass, have a quick chat at the start or end of the day, or arrange a meeting if more time is needed. We value strong, positive partnerships with our families and will always make time to work together to achieve the best outcomes for our students.
Strawberry Fair - Fundraising Money
Following the Strawberry Fair in November, our students, families, and staff contributed a wide range of ideas for how our fundraising could be used. After further consultation with students and the Junior School Council late last year, these ideas have been refined into a final shortlist.
We are now seeking one final round of community input before decisions are made. Families are invited to select up to five priorities from the list via the Google Form (link: (https://forms.gle/JXMWA9syrK8FrmKs7). Given the significant collective effort that has shaped this process, it is important that all voices can contribute before we move forward.
The survey will close on Monday 16th February. Paper copies are also available from the front office. Thank you for your continued engagement. These ideas will inform both immediate improvements and future planning for our school.
Out of Hours Care - Woodlands
A reminder that Woodlands - Before and After School Care is available for all Wallington PS students every day. The wonderful staff are always welcoming and create fun and engaging activities every day for all who join. They offer both long-term and casual bookings. Please don’t hesitate to contact Woodlands (see link for more information).
Icy Pole Store – Term 1
The icy pole store will be open every Friday lunchtime for students. Zooper Doopers will be available outside the hall kitchen for $1 each. Students may purchase for themselves or family members, with a limit of two per person. On particularly hot days (27°C or above), the stall will also open.

PE and Dance
Students have had an energetic and engaging week in Physical Education and Dance. In PE, classes were introduced to the key skills of throwing, catching, and batting as we begin our cricket unit. Students explored how to use control, coordination, and correct technique, and many showed great improvement as they practised these skills in small‑group activities.
In Dance, students continued learning how to create and perform short routines, experimenting with a variety of movements, levels, shapes, and pathways. They worked collaboratively and creatively with their peers to build sequences, share ideas, and perform with confidence.
It’s been fantastic to see students supporting one another, trying new skills, and bringing enthusiasm to every lesson.
Looking forward to more active learning next week.
