Dear Families,
STOMP
Well done to all students for embracing our annual STOMP incursion last Friday! It is always such a delight to see the students challenge themselves to learn the dance in one day and have the confidence to perform in front of the whole school community. Well done too to the staff and families who also got involved in the event and joined in with the performances!
Harmony Week Celebrations!
FRIDAY 27th March: P&F Easter Morning Tea, Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser, Family Picnic
Tomorrow is a big day on the event calendar with multiple events for all to enjoy! Those students who ordered their Special Easter Morning Tea will receive their orders during first lunch eating time. Hot Cross Bun orders will be available for collection in the hall after assembly. A big thank you to Bakers Delight, Leopold for their amazing ongoing support! Finally, at the end of the day, will be our celebration Family Picnic for all to enjoy thanks to the P&F – bring a rug, or chairs, and a plate of something baked to share!
Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge is now open, and we’re looking forward to all students from Prep to Year 6 taking part. Classroom teachers will support students to get set up and begin logging their reading. This year’s theme is ‘Stories to discover. Stories to tell.’
The Challenge encourages students to develop a love of reading by setting a personal goal to read a set number of books. Students in Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or experience 30 books, while students in Years 3 to 6 are challenged to read 15 books. Books can be read independently, shared with others, or read aloud.
The Challenge runs until Friday 4th September, giving students plenty of time to enjoy a wide range of texts and build positive reading habits.
We encourage families to support their child’s participation by making time for regular reading at home and celebrating their progress along the way. Certificates will be awarded to all students who successfully complete the challenge at their level.
Curriculum Contributions
As Term 1 draws to a close, we would like to thank families who have already made their voluntary curriculum contributions for 2026 - your support is greatly appreciated and makes a real difference to our school community.
If you haven’t had the chance to contribute yet, we warmly encourage you to do so. While all parent contributions are voluntary, they play an important role in supporting the high-quality programs and learning experiences our students enjoy. Department funding covers the essentials of the Victorian Curriculum, and contributions enable us to offer enhanced opportunities that enrich every student’s learning.
Your contributions help us to:
Provide specialist programs such as Art, STEM, First Nations Studies, and Physical Education
Offer engaging curriculum resources, including updated readers and subscriptions like Reading Eggs, Mathseeds, Times Tables Rockstars, and Compass
Maintain and enhance our school grounds and play spaces
A detailed breakdown of contributions and how they support student learning is available on our website. Thank you for your ongoing support and for helping us make 2026 a successful year for all our students.
Stop Work Action
Thank you to our families for your understanding during Tuesday’s industrial action. We recognise the disruption this may have caused and truly appreciate the flexibility shown by our community.
Ecolinc Incursion
On Thursday 26th of March we enjoyed our Ecolinc Sphero - Pollinators Incursion with the Grade 3, 4 and 5’s. Well done to Fletcher and Parker for writing the special piece below explaining all about it.

Art
Preps - Self-Portraits
Prep students designed their own uniform, using line and pattern with sharpie pen. We applied watercolour paint to colour each piece of clothing, cut out each piece and glued on to a body template. Photos of their face were glued on along with a Wallington Primary School hat. They look fantastic!

PE /Dance Weekly Snapshot
This week in Physical Education, students continued to build on the Lacrosse skills they began developing last week. After practising the fundamentals—throwing, catching, and scooping—many classes were ready to put their learning into action by competing in small‑sided Lacrosse games.
Students worked hard to refine their technique and play safely, focusing on:
Throwing the ball safely to a teammate
Catching with soft hands to maintain control
Scooping ground balls by getting low and steady
Moving into space to support their team
Keeping their stick low and safe around others
Working together and communicating during gameplay
It was fantastic to see students applying these skills with confidence, teamwork, and enthusiasm. Their progress from skill practice to game play showed real determination and growth.
District Cross Country – St Leonards Foreshore
A huge congratulations to all students from Years 3–6 who represented Wallington PS at the District Cross Country held at the beautiful St Leonards Foreshore. Every runner put in a massive effort, showing outstanding Resilience, Responsibility, and Respect throughout the day. You all represented our school with pride.
A big thank‑you goes to Mr Ellery and Luca for their support on the day, as well as to all the parents and friends who came along to cheer. Your encouragement made the event even more special.
The top 8 runners from each age group now progress to the Division Championships on Tuesday 19th May, with 9th and 10th place finishers named as emergencies. Further details will be shared closer to the date.

Champion of the Week Award
Congratulations to Landyn in Grade 3.
This week’s Champion of the Week goes to Landyn in Grade 3 for showing incredible resilience during his District Cross Country race. At the start of the course, Landyn took a fall—but instead of giving up, he showed amazing determination. He got back up, dusted himself off, and kept running with a positive attitude and a strong spirit.
Landyn’s effort is a wonderful reminder that being a champion isn’t just about finishing first—it’s about never giving up, even when things get tough. His courage and persistence inspired everyone watching, and he represented Wallington PS with pride.
Well done, Landyn. Your resilience is something to be truly proud of.

What is First Nations?
First Nations studies in primary schools focus on developing respect and understanding of the world’s oldest continuous culture.
Students learn about local Aboriginal languages, stories, land stewardship, sustainability, and traditional science and technologies. Curriculum covers history, food/medicinal knowledge, art, and ongoing, living culture to build empathy.

Notice Board
Unexplained absences
Please check Compass for any unexplained absences for your child/s for 2026, if you could put an explanation for each one before the end of term.
An unexplained absence in compass us a record indicating that a student was marked “not present” (absent or late) without a reason entered by a parent/guardian. It means that school is aware the student is missing but not why.
How to Fix: Under the "Attendance" tab, the "Unexplained" tab lists these absences. Parents can select the relevant dates and click "Explain with Note/Approval" to provide a reason.
Why It Matters: Schools are required to ensure they know the safety of students and keep attendance records, requiring a reason for every day a student is absent/late.

What it is:
Financial Education and Savings:
Saver Plus is a 10-month online program designed to help participants learn about financial management, set savings goals, and develop regular saving habits.
Matched Savings:
Participants who complete the program have their savings matched by ANZ, up to a maximum of $500, which can be used for education-related costs.
Online Delivery:
The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants across Australia.
Saver Plus is a partnership between ANZ, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, The Smith Family and Berry Street.
Eligibility: To be eligible, participants need to have a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and an eligible Centrelink payment, have other regular income, be studying themselves or have a child in school, be 18+ years old, and agree to join in free online financial education workshops.
